The court stressed that Samsung had invested many years and huge costs to develop and mass produce 18nm DRAM chips. The leak of this technology not only caused serious economic losses to Samsung but also affected the technological security of Korea. This is considered one of the biggest technology leaks in the country's semiconductor industry.

According to sources, the former Samsung employee used his position to collect and transfer important documents to CXMT. The disclosure of technological secrets by an individual for personal gain is considered a dangerous act that could put South Korea at a disadvantage in competing with China in the semiconductor sector.

Meanwhile, CXMT is said to be developing DDR5 technology and has launched products in the domestic Chinese market. Several motherboard manufacturers, including MSI, have started supporting CXMT memory modules, indicating that the company is gradually gaining market share.

While there is no clear evidence yet on whether CXMT actually benefited directly from the technology leak, the harsh sentence from the Korean court has shown the seriousness of technology theft, not only for Samsung but also for the entire global semiconductor industry.
