Gayle Erasmus witnessed the extraordinary hunt on the Sabie River Bridge in the southern Lower Sabie area of Kruger National Park, South Africa, Latest Sightings reported on October 5. Gayle Erasmus and other tourists in the group ran across the low bridge, the loud splashing of water attracted their attention. They were amazed to see the crocodile catch a python. Erasmus could not determine whether the crocodile had just taken down the python or the python was already dead.

To tear the snake into bite-sized pieces, the crocodile tossed the snake across the water. It then swam back to shore and struggled to eat the snake. Finally, it moved to deeper water hidden by reeds and disappeared there.

Crocodiles typically feed on fish, birds, and mammals. They are excellent aquatic predators, often hiding in murky water and diving to catch their prey. However, they are also opportunistic predators and will eat pythons and snakes if they can. Crocodiles have a unique feeding method because they cannot chew. By tearing the python into pieces, the crocodile can swallow it more easily.

The Nile crocodile is the largest crocodile in Africa and the second largest in the world after the saltwater crocodile. On average, adults can reach 2.8 - 5 m in length and weigh 70 - 700 kg.
