On June 1, Mr. Dang Kim Cuong, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) of Ninh Thuan, said that Phuoc Binh green-skinned grapefruit is the first agricultural product of Ninh Thuan approved by the US Department of Agriculture (APHIS) to be granted a growing area code with the symbol PB.32.02.01.001 (the Irads code approved by APHIS is 27424) with an area of 23 hectares, in Phuoc Binh commune, Bac Ai district; this code is effective from June 22, 2023. This is a good sign for grapefruit farmers in Phuoc Binh commune.
Phuoc Binh green-skin grapefruit is eligible for export to the US market.
Currently, the Ninh Thuan Province Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (under the Ninh Thuan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) conducts monitoring to maintain compliance with the regulations of the importing country; conducts field inspections and sends monitoring reports on plant protection within 90 days, before the next harvest to serve as a basis for maintaining the code; at the same time, guides and supervises representatives of the growing area to publicly inform all households in the growing area about the approval status and use of this growing area code.
Green-skinned grapefruit is the main crop of Phuoc Binh people.
Phuoc Binh Commune, Bac Ai District is located in the buffer zone of Phuoc Binh National Park, bordering Lam Dong Province, with climate and soil conditions very suitable for growing green-skinned grapefruit. The main crop of Phuoc Binh people is green-skinned grapefruit with nearly 200 hectares.
