(Dan Tri) - For many days now, in Dak Glei district, Kon Tum province, there has been an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in buffalo and cows, causing more than 70 animals to be infected.
On February 6, the People's Committee of Dak Glei district, Kon Tum province, said that from February 1 to February 5, 73 buffaloes and cows of 33 ethnic minority households in Dak Nhoong and Xop communes were infected with foot-and-mouth disease.
Previously, farmers in these two communes had discovered some buffaloes and cows showing unusual signs such as not eating, having difficulty walking, feeling tired and drooling. Immediately after that, households reported the situation to local authorities for timely handling.
According to authorities, the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak arose spontaneously and most of the infected livestock had not been vaccinated in 2024.
Faced with the outbreak, the People's Committee of Dak Glei district has directed specialized agencies to strengthen propaganda and guide people to implement disease prevention and control measures.
The District People's Committee has provided more than 100 liters of chemicals and 1 ton of lime powder for the authorities to spray disinfectants, disinfect barns and clean the environment at the epidemic site as well as neighboring areas.
Veterinary staff coordinated with the commune People's Committee and local people to clean and spray disinfectants in the barns. At the same time, the Dak Glei District People's Committee also directed communes to isolate the epidemic area and control the buying, selling and transporting of animals to prevent the spread of the disease.
