Sir, 2024 is gradually coming to an end with very positive import-export results as the turnover gradually approaches the figure of 800 billion USD. What do you think about the picture of import-export in 2025?

2024 is considered a successful year for import-export activities when world demand is gradually recovering after 2 difficult years due to the pandemic. In addition, high agricultural prices also help increase import-export turnover. In particular, the participation of ministries and branches, especially the role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in building policies to remove difficulties for businesses; timely and thorough preparation of businesses also helps import-export activities to flourish.

The springboard of 2024 will create new momentum for 2025. Accordingly, I believe that in 2025, the world trend will continue in a more positive direction, the demand for goods will continue to increase, creating conditions for Vietnam's export goods to be exported strongly to markets.

However, the service is not sustainable because the inflation situation in the world is still complicated. Besides, the war situation in the world is still complicated, affecting the general trading activities.

Not to mention, the re-election of Donald Trump as US President with new policies will have certain impacts on Vietnam's export activities. Because President Donald Trump will have policies to protect domestically produced goods, this will be a difficulty for Vietnam's exports when the US is the largest export market for Vietnamese goods.

The story of green fences has been mentioned many times in recent times. So what do you think about the barriers of green export to Vietnam's export goods?

The EU recently pushed back the implementation of the EU Deforestation Prevention Regulation (EUDR). Instead of starting in early 2025, the Consensus Agreement sets the entry into force date at 30 December 2025 for large companies and 30 June 2026 for small businesses. This means that large companies will start implementing the anti-deforestation law at the end of 2025 and small and medium-sized businesses in mid-2026.

This move by the EU shows that green barriers for imported goods are an inevitable trend. The reason for this situation is that climate change has been and is becoming increasingly severe. The EU has become the leading market in the world, using the power of importers to apply green criteria and standards to imported goods. Therefore, businesses are forced to consider it natural, necessary and must meet it because this is an inevitable trend.

Accordingly, enterprises need to use recyclable materials to produce export products. In addition, ensure that export products can meet the requirements of environmental protection and sustainable development of the import market.

With green transformation, businesses will have to spend initial costs such as using energy-saving equipment and using recycled materials. But in the long run, it will reduce costs for businesses such as reducing energy costs and reducing prices. If businesses achieve green transformation sooner, they will increase their competitiveness with their "rivals".

Trade defense is also considered to continue to be a trend that markets build to protect imported goods. What solutions do you think will help Vietnamese businesses overcome trade defense barriers in the coming time?

Currently, Vietnam has become one of the world's leading import-export countries. According to a recent report by the World Trade Organization (WTO), Vietnam is in the Top 30 largest commodity exporting economies in the world, ranked 23rd. In terms of imports, among the 30 largest importing economies in the world, Vietnam ranks 22nd with 326 billion USD, accounting for 1.3% of global imports.

Thus, Vietnam has become one of the major import-export powers and is forced to consider trade defense barriers as a must-have in import-export activities. Enterprises must prepare documents and be ready to respond if their goods are unfortunately caught up in trade defense lawsuits.

In addition, state management agencies must also be ready to support businesses in early warning of trade defense. This is an activity that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has done relatively well in recent times. At the same time, they must be ready to support businesses in responding to trade defense lawsuits.

At the same time, the authorities also need to do a good job of protecting domestic goods and be ready to sue if other countries violate our country. Good trade defense both domestically and internationally will help bring great competitiveness to Vietnamese goods.

Thank you!
