On May 14, the inspection delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Trade led by Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development, had a working session on energy conservation in Lao Cai. Also participating were representatives of the Northern Power Corporation and Vietnam Electricity Group.

Working with the inspection team were representatives of the Department of Industry and Trade, Lao Cai Electricity Company and a number of specialized departments and enterprises in the province.
Reporting to the inspection team, the representative of the Energy Management Department of Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade said that in recent times, in addition to advising the Provincial People's Committee to issue many decisions, plans, directives, and official dispatches on electricity supply, economical and efficient use of electricity, the Department of Industry and Trade has proactively issued documents to organizations and individuals to guide the implementation of regulations on economical and efficient use of energy. In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade has requested key energy-using establishments to deploy the application of energy management systems; comply with the provisions of the Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, and documents on electricity saving.
Mr. Ha Van Anh, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Power Company (PC Lao Cai) also said: In the past time, Lao Cai Power Company has ensured safe power supply, well serving important political and social activities in the locality. In 2023, Lao Cai saved 55.35 million kWh, reaching a rate of 2.13%. The Company always does a good job of saving electricity according to Directive 20 of the Prime Minister.
In 2024, the Northern Power Corporation assigned PC Lao Cai to reduce peak capacity during peak hours of the system (from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 21:00 to 24:00 during hot months) by 57 MW. PC Lao Cai has worked with 65 large customers to sign agreements to adjust loads and shift production loads during peak hours. In addition, PC Lao Cai has also worked with customers with diesel generators that actively separate from the power grid to reduce the peak capacity of the system by about 4.7 MW in case of peak capacity shortage...

Speaking at the inspection, a representative of the Northern Power Corporation proposed that the Department of Industry and Trade take the lead and closely coordinate with the Power Company to strengthen inspections of electricity saving work in the area.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development, Ministry of Industry and Trade emphasized: The national electricity demand in the first 3 months of 2024 is 11.84% while that of Lao Cai is 15.7%, this is a very high rate. Therefore, to solve this problem, the solution to promote the use of energy saving and efficiency is the top priority.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu requested the Department of Industry and Trade to review management documents as well as step up the supervision and inspection of 19 key energy-using facilities in the province because 63% of commercial electricity output in Lao Cai province belongs to these key energy-using facilities...
In 2025 and the following years, it is recommended that the Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade closely coordinate with the Department of Energy Conservation and Sustainable Development to make support proposals. Based on the proposals of the localities, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will synthesize, review and approve programs and tasks in accordance with the implementation plan of the National Program on Energy Conservation and Efficiency for the period 2019 - 2030. At the same time, the Department is ready to provide maximum support to localities in training and coaching for energy management staff at the local level and in enterprises.

Speaking to receive the opinions of the inspection team, Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang, Deputy Director of Lao Cai Department of Industry and Trade agreed with the comments of the inspection team, and said that the Department of Industry and Trade committed to further improving the management of energy saving and efficiency as well as closely coordinating with the Department of Energy Saving and Sustainable Development in the coming time.
On this occasion, the inspection team worked with Duc Giang Chemicals One Member Co., Ltd. on law enforcement in using energy economically and efficiently.
