It seems like a coincidence, but in just a short time, two very famous names of global technology appeared in Vietnam, showing many optimistic signals, not only in the investment of two leading technology corporations such as Microsoft and Apple, but more broadly: Vietnam is increasingly becoming a destination for the technology industry, especially the semiconductor industry.
Mr. Bill Gates' trip to Da Nang in a more personal capacity is considered by experts as a testament to the growing attractiveness of Vietnam as a tourist destination for global figures.
For Apple CEO Tim Cook, it's not just a trip to a "vibrant and beautiful" country as Tim Cook shared, but also a trip to a market that is making progress in technology and innovation.
It should be remembered that in Vietnam, there are currently nearly 30 suppliers for Apple operating in Vietnam, spread across many provinces and cities such as Foxconn - one of Apple's largest contractors, Luxshare ICT, Compal Electronics... attracting tens of thousands of Vietnamese workers.
Many believe that Tim Cook’s visit to Vietnam is not simply related to the project to support clean water for local schools, even though Apple has spent nearly 400 trillion VND since 2019 through its local supply chain and has more than doubled its annual spending in Vietnam during the same period.
Late last year, when meeting with a senior Vietnamese leader in the US, Apple CEO Tim Cook also affirmed: "Vietnam is part of Apple's special business strategy". At the same time, he also assessed that Vietnam's digital economy is developing strongly, and Vietnam possesses a team of highly qualified engineers and technology staff.
In recent years, Vietnam has made efforts to “clear the nest to welcome the eagles” by creating many mechanisms and policies to attract investment capital from technology companies to Vietnam with the goal of increasing the rate of investment in high technology and clean technology. Apple and its suppliers will find new opportunities in Vietnam - a country that is making significant investments in innovation and technology application.
It is too early to draw specific benefits from the visits to Vietnam by Bill Gates and Tim Cook. But this is an opportunity for Vietnam to introduce its advantages and potentials, especially the potential for labor and innovation. From there, it will increase the attractiveness for large investors, thereby paving the way for local investment and development, accelerating in the high-tech sector.
