Heaven's Gate (also known as Pu Loc Coc peak) is located along National Highway 15C in Trung Ly commune, Muong Lat border district, Thanh Hoa province. It is an ideal stop for locals and tourists when coming to Muong Lat to enjoy the fresh air, admire the majestic mountain scenery, and check-in to take souvenir photos.
"Muong Lat Heaven Gate" is a stopover for locals and tourists every time they come to Muong Lat district - the most remote place in Thanh Hoa province.
In 2023, the People's Committee of Trung Ly commune invested in the project to renovate Muong Lat Heaven Gate with a total capital of 1.5 billion VND into a stopover for tourists when coming to the wild land to experience the life of the people here.
The highlight of the project is a large stone block about 3m high erected right in the middle of the construction. On the stone block are engraved 4 famous verses of poet Quang Dung: "The Ma River is far away, Tay Tien oh/Remembering the mountains and forests, I feel lost/Sai Khao fog covers the tired army/Muong Lat flowers return in the night air".
Authorities put up warning signs at the iconic construction site "Muong Lat Heaven's Gate".
The project is expected to be completed in January 2024. Since then, Heaven's Gate has become a popular and favorite tourist destination.
However, recent heavy rains have caused this project to experience landslides on the negative slope, with many large cracks appearing around the foundation, requiring temporary reinforcement with bamboo poles. Some locations around the "Muong Lat Heaven Gate" stone block that were solidly poured with concrete have also cracked.
Trung Ly Commune has placed bamboo stakes around the construction site and covered it with tarpaulin to prevent water from seeping into the cracks and causing landslides.
According to the People's Committee of Trung Ly Commune, the landslide started occurring in May 2024. In the immediate future, to ensure the safety of tourists and residents, the authorities have temporarily placed bamboo stakes at the landslide site and placed warning signs around the construction site.
On September 12, speaking with Giao Thong Newspaper, Mr. Trinh Van The, Chairman of Muong Lat District People's Committee, said that no additional landslides or cracks have been recorded in the project. "This incident has been reported to the province. After this flood, we will fix and re-process this project."
