Highlight Switzerland 2-0 Italy
"We won an important match and that's the most important thing. As for the next job tomorrow, we will prepare well for the next opponent," coach Murat Yakin said after Switzerland's 2-0 victory over Italy at the Olympic Stadium (Berlin, Germany) in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 on the evening of June 29 (Vietnam time).
Italy had a weak performance when they were overwhelmed by the Swiss team in both halves. In the 38th minute, from an attack on the right wing, Ruben Vargas passed to Remo Freuler who scored, opening the score for Switzerland.

At the beginning of the second half, also from an attack on Italy's right wing, Switzerland scored their second goal. In the 46th minute, Ruben Vargas made a superb curling shot, leaving goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma helpless, helping Switzerland seal a 2-0 victory when Italy was powerless to change the game after more than half an hour left.
Coach Murat Yakin expressed that he was not surprised to see his players defeat Italy and turn the blue team into the former champion of Euro.
"We kept them busy defensively by constantly applying high pressure. It's not just the result but also the way we won today," said coach Murat Yakin.

Switzerland midfielder Rubin Vargas, who was named man of the match, said the secret to victory was his team's attacking play from the start. "We didn't even give them time to breathe," said the midfielder born in 1998.
This was only Switzerland's ninth win over Italy in 62 matches and their first since 1993. Switzerland will play the winner of England's match against Slovakia on July 6.
Meanwhile, the Italian players will have to pack their bags and go home early for the first time in 20 years from the quarter-finals.
