Thought it was a mole, went to the doctor and found out it was cancer
Ms. CTHN (47 years old, Hanoi) came to Medlatec General Hospital for examination when she discovered a "mole" on the sole of her foot showing signs of increasing in size. Ms. N said, "People say that moles on the sole of the foot symbolize wealth and prosperity in life. I thought it was a good feng shui mole, but it turned out not to be."
Malignant moles have abnormal signs such as roughness, uneven color, rapid growth...
Through clinical examination, the doctor discovered the malignant nature of the mole by signs of size about 1cm, asymmetry, and rough dark brown surface.
Ms. N was quickly ordered by the doctor to have surgery to remove the entire tumor for histopathological evaluation. The results of the histopathological analysis pointed towards a diagnosis of melanoma.
To confirm the diagnosis and differentiate it from other malignant tumors such as skin-dependent gland cancer and metastatic cancer, Ms. N was further assigned to undergo specialized testing and the tumor results revealed signs of melanoma.
Ms. N had surgery to remove the tumor. After the intervention, Ms. N's health was stable, continued to be monitored, and scheduled for a follow-up visit after 3 months.
5 signs of malignant moles
Dr. Tran Thi Thu, Dermatology Specialist, Medlatec General Hospital said: On the human body, there are often congenital or acquired skin lesions such as freckles, moles, changes in skin pigmentation... Most of these lesions are benign, however, in some cases these lesions can turn malignant, so it is necessary to monitor their progression.
According to Dr. Thu, there are 5 signs to distinguish between normal moles and moles with the risk of malignancy that people need to pay attention to, specifically:
According to Dr. Tran Thi Thu, in addition to identifying suspicious signs with the naked eye, people need to immediately go to reputable medical facilities to perform the necessary clinical tests to serve a definitive diagnosis.
In particular, in cases where it is necessary to clearly determine the nature of the lesion, the role of pathological examination is indispensable, which is the gold standard in diagnosing malignant diseases.
"When detecting unusual moles on the skin, especially in areas that are often exposed to sunlight or areas that are easily rubbed (palms, soles of the feet), people need to proactively seek timely medical attention, because this could be a sign of a tumor or skin cancer," Dr. Thu advised.
