Although stationed in the province's key agricultural production area, the Quang Yen Town Military Command encountered many difficulties in increasing production. Because the land here is saline sandy soil, it is very poor, not very fertile and difficult to cultivate. With the efforts and perseverance of the officers and soldiers, the unit has built a green, rich production area to ensure an abundant supply of clean food for the soldiers' meals.
Arriving at the Quang Yen Military Command barracks in the first days of the new year, we were surprised by the unit's TGSX garden. The squash trellises were full of fruit. The lush green vegetable beds with all kinds of vegetables, cabbage, lettuce, tomatoes... Looking at this lush green garden, few people would have thought that just a few months ago, this entire growing area was wiped out by the impact of storm No. 3 (YAGI).
Joining us, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tuan, Head of Logistics of the Town Military Command, shared: “After the storm passed, the unit lost 300m2 of vegetable garden, 150m2 of trellis; more than 1,000 fruit trees; 60m2 of barns collapsed, 50m2 of roof of the growing area was blown off... Not only did the agricultural products and the garden and barn system collapse, the storm also caused the soil and soil to be washed away, making the restoration work difficult. To achieve what it is today, the unit focused on improving the soil, fertilizing, and adding plants to increase nutrients for the soil; proactively preparing the best new plant varieties for intercropping and crop rotation. At the same time, immediately started replanting the entire garden and trellis area with many types of seasonal vegetables and fruits”.
Along with growing vegetables, the Quang Yen Town Military Command reorganized the barn system to develop livestock and poultry farming. The barns were solidly built, with a waste treatment system to ensure environmental hygiene. All livestock are raised entirely on clean food, mainly using agricultural products and fully vaccinated against diseases. Up to now, the unit has always maintained 19 pigs, 120 poultry of all kinds... From the TGSX, the quality of meals for the unit's officers and soldiers has gradually improved, with corresponding prices only 2/3 of the market price.
Talking to us, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Minh Tu, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Town Military Command, said that in order to improve the effectiveness of the TGSX work, the unit has linked TGSX with the emulation activities "Building and managing regular, green - clean - beautiful barracks" and "A unit that feeds troops well, manages military supplies well"... Every year, the Party Committee and the Town Military Command always pay attention to and direct units to synchronously implement the criteria of the logistics sector, and propose specialized resolutions to lead the TGSX work. From there, assign and assign tasks to each department to enhance the sense of responsibility and create motivation for emulation among the unit's officers and soldiers. From there, the effectiveness of TGSX is improved, and the material and spiritual life of officers and soldiers is improved.
Currently, the unit ensures meals according to Circular 168/TT-BQP on regulations on standards, quantities, and food prices according to current regulations; calories reach over 3,250 Kcal/person/day. Maintain a good 2-4-4 meal structure, suitable for the unit's conditions. The quality of cooking in the kitchen and the quality of meals are increasingly improved. Food hygiene and safety are always guaranteed. The unit allocates an additional 10,000 VND/person/day for meals; additional meals for holidays and Tet are from 120,000-150,000 VND/person/day. In particular, the work of restoring the production base after the storm not only ensures regular service for the troops but also has a source of vegetables, meat, and fish in reserve to serve during the Lunar New Year 2025.
