Mr. Diep Bao Tuan, Deputy Executive Director of Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, said so at the signing ceremony of comprehensive cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital and Merck Healthcare Vietnam Company on October 19.
Specifically, in 2023, the Oncology Hospital will receive more than 720,000 medical examinations and treatments, with about 82% of patients coming from provinces outside Ho Chi Minh City. Previously, when examining at facility 1, the number of provincial patients coming to the Oncology Hospital for examination accounted for 75%. Thus, the number of patients from other provinces coming to the Oncology Hospital for examination continues to increase.
The number of patients coming to the Oncology Hospital for examination and treatment in the first 9 months of 2024 increased by 15% compared to the number of patients coming for examination and treatment in the first 9 months of 2023. Currently, the Oncology Hospital receives 4,500 - 4,700 patients for examination every day.
Patients coming to the Oncology Hospital have the highest number of breast cancer cases, followed by thyroid cancer.
Mr. Diep Bao Tuan also said that this month or next month, Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital will open a genetic counseling clinic.
For example, when a patient is diagnosed with breast cancer, if the patient agrees, doctors will conduct a genetic test to see if the patient's family members such as siblings, children... have the breast cancer gene or not?
If the child has a recessive gene, the doctor will advise that when they get married, the future wife or husband must also be tested to see if they have this recessive gene.
However, when performing these tests, the Oncology Hospital must ensure that the test results are very accurate. When the results are available, the Oncology Hospital doctors will advise patients in a scientific and appropriate manner to avoid abuse.

Patients who agree to participate in the trial will receive the drug for free.
Mr. Diep Bao Tuan also said that the Oncology Hospital has received 40 multi-center trials. These multi-center trials are global drug trials. These multi-center trials have all been approved by the Medical Ethics Council of the Ministry of Health.
When patients agree to participate in these trials, they receive free medication and even receive additional support for travel expenses.
