40 years since Apple introduced a little-known product

At the time, Apple didn’t have the range of devices it has today, and this launch could be considered a big gamble for the company. The LaserWriter was not only Apple’s first printer, but also one of the first products on the market to incorporate Adobe PostScript technology.

The LaserWriter was designed for a niche audience, not the average consumer. At a price tag of $7,000 (about $24,000 at today’s exchange rate), it wasn’t an easy choice for many. However, it allowed users to create documents like flyers and magazines without the need for professional printing services, which appealed to a select group of customers.

Why does Apple no longer make laser printers?

However, the LaserWriter was only capable of printing in black and white, while competitors quickly developed similar products with color printing capabilities and lower prices, which led to a decline in Apple's sales in the 1990s. Ultimately, under the leadership of Steve Jobs, Apple decided to withdraw from the laser printer market in 1997.

Since then, Apple has focused on core products such as computers, phones and tablets, which has helped the company recover and grow strongly to become one of the world's leading technology corporations.

While many people may not have heard of the LaserWriter, it was an important product in the history of technology, marking the development of the printing industry. Looking back today, we can thank Apple not only for its successful products, but also for its attempts at innovation, even if they weren’t always successful.
