The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program is a program to develop the rural economy in the direction of promoting local internal strength and increasing value, improving the income of rural residents, contributing to the construction of new rural areas. However, in recent times, the consumption of OCOP products has also encountered certain difficulties such as: processed products are still limited, production scale is still small, especially the consumption of products has encountered many difficulties that are not commensurate with the potential and advantages of localities. Therefore, promoting the output of OCOP products, especially promoting the introduction of products into supermarket systems, is an issue of concern to Yen Bai province.

After more than 5 years of implementation, by the end of 2024, the whole province has certified 297 OCOP products, of which 25 products have achieved 4 stars, 272 products have achieved 3 stars. In particular, some key products and strengths of the province such as: cinnamon tea, cinnamon cigarettes, Suoi Giang Shan Tuyet tea, Bat Do bamboo shoots, Gioi Phien vermicelli, catfish sausage, catfish ham... are brought into the supermarket system, stores in provinces and cities in the country and exported to markets in EU countries, UK, China, Taiwan...

Gioi Phien Vermicelli Production and Trading Cooperative, Yen Bai City has been maintaining vermicelli products for sale at Big C Supermarket in Hanoi for many years. Through introducing and selling products at supermarkets and convenience stores, the cooperative's products have become closer to consumers.

Mr. Nguyen Van Toan - Director of the Cooperative said: "In recent years, bringing vermicelli products into the Big C Hanoi Supermarket system has formed a high economic value chain, helping the Cooperative increase product value, the volume of products sold domestically increased by 4 - 5% compared to before; thereby, increasing the profit value for the Cooperative. Through introducing and selling products at supermarkets, the Cooperative's products have become closer to consumers. That is also the basis and foundation for the products to have more opportunities to be promoted to more supermarkets and more modern supermarket systems nationwide".

After many efforts of all levels and sectors, Yen Bai province now has more than 10 OCOP products for sale at Big C Supermarket in Hanoi. These products are mainly dried products, but the quantity is not much, and there are no fresh products yet. The main reason is that the products are still seasonal, the production scale is not large, the output is not consistent, when partners want to import in large quantities, they cannot meet the requirements. The quality of the products is inconsistent due to the dependence on the production area.

In addition, many OCOP product owners lack legal procedures when implementing economic transaction contracts, test certificates on physical and chemical indicators, microbiology and pesticides... do not meet the set criteria. Product designs, packaging, and labels are not diverse and eye-catching, and the return and exchange policies for products do not meet the needs of supermarkets. This makes OCOP products unable to reach the supermarket system.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan - Director of Big C Thang Long Supermarket said: "In the past time, Central Retail Group has actively accompanied businesses and cooperatives in promoting consumption and promoting brands for Yen Bai's strong products. Many products are available at Big C Thang Long Supermarket such as: bamboo shoots, vermicelli, dried meat, fish cakes, fish floss, etc.".

The representative of Central Reltail Vietnam Group also committed that in 2025, when GO! Yen Bai Supermarket comes into operation, there will be priority booths to display and sell local OCOP products. This is also an opportunity for Yen Bai OCOP products to enter the supermarket system in a systematic and correct manner, not only at GO! Yen Bai Supermarket but also at Central Reltail Vietnam Group supermarkets nationwide.

In order for OCOP products to be competitive in the market and have a place in large supermarkets, in the coming time, Yen Bai needs to promote and create conditions for entities to participate in promotional programs, product introductions, and trade promotion at home and abroad. At the same time, continue to work with supermarket systems and trade centers in major provinces and cities to have preferential mechanisms to attract OCOP product entities of the province to participate in displaying, introducing, and selling products.

In addition, entities with OCOP products must also complete necessary requirements such as: traceability stamps, product quality assessment forms; invoices and product designs and packaging to attract consumers when entering the supermarket system.

"The industry and trade sector will continue to coordinate to promote and disseminate activities so that entities can better understand relevant regulations and policies of the State, conditions and procedures for bringing a product to supermarkets, contributing to solving the output of the product" - Mr. Nguyen Dinh Chien - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Yen Bai province emphasized.
