Stirring up controversy over teachers handing out "requests not to take the 10th grade entrance exam" to students

Since the morning of May 11, the stir on student and parent forums in Ho Chi Minh City has been the pre-printed "Application for not participating in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year" application, leaving the name section blank for students and parents to fill in.

The content of this application, in addition to the information of the parents, students and contact phone number, also includes the content: "Based on the results of the study last school year and the child's poor cognitive ability, the family finds that it is difficult for the child to study in the public high school program. The family now submits this application to the school board to request that the child (student's name) not participate in the entrance exam for grade 10 of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, session 6/6/2024".

The content of the petition immediately caused a storm on social networks, with many harsh comments saying that the school did not allow the student to take the entrance exam to grade 10 because of his achievements.

Many other opinions also said that regardless of the student's academic ability, even if he fails the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam to a public school, the school should not prohibit him. "Handing out pre-printed applications like that is offensive," one opinion wrote.

The "request not to take the 10th grade entrance exam" caused a stir.

It is known that the incident happened at Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School (Hoc Mon District). Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hoc Mon District, said that the petition originated from a 9th grade class at Nguyen Van Bua Secondary School. According to Mr. Hiep, the teacher printed out the petition for students to fill out. Currently, the Department of Education and Training of the district has requested the school to make a report. At the same time, the school has been instructed to invite the student's parents to discuss it again. He also affirmed that this incident happened beyond the Department of Education and Training's wishes, because the unit had just had a meeting with public schools for 10th grade.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2024-2025 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 and 7. This year, Ho Chi Minh City will conduct the entrance exam in Thanh An Island Commune (Can Gio District) for students who graduated from junior high school in this area.
