Comrade Le Thanh Do, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee informed about the geographical location, climate, weather, land resources, water resources; the current status of agricultural production and population of the province. He said: Buckwheat trees are only planted sporadically in some households with the main purpose of being ornamental plants and planted at some tourist spots to attract visitors to visit and take photos, buckwheat trees have not been used for other purposes such as food production. In addition to the priority orientation of developing buckwheat growing areas for tourism development, it is possible to mobilize agricultural producers to take advantage of the land area for rice and corn cultivation after harvest to grow buckwheat trees to create a commodity production area.

Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Thanh Do outlined the potential and strengths of Dien Bien province.

Dien Bien Province proposed that the Japan - Vietnam Culinary Association have specific orientations on the value of buckwheat, the actual demand for raw materials associated with the scale of development of buckwheat acreage in Dien Bien Province, and the benefits of people participating in developing buckwheat production. There should be mechanisms and policies to support the production and consumption of buckwheat products as a basis for orienting and developing buckwheat locally, harmonizing the interests of people and businesses in the sustainable development of buckwheat.

At the meeting, Mr. Matsuo Tomoyuki, Chairman of the Japan - Vietnam Culinary Association, on behalf of the delegation, thanked Dien Bien province for the warm welcome. At the same time, he introduced the development of buckwheat plants to make buckwheat noodles (SOBA) in some localities in Vietnam, typically Ha Giang province. Mr. Matsuo Tomoyuki affirmed: Buckwheat plants in the Northwestern provinces of Vietnam are very valuable. Currently, the demand for importing raw buckwheat seeds from Vietnam to make Soba noodles in Japan is very large. The Japan - Vietnam Culinary Association hopes to have an exchange with Dien Bien province about the potential and strengths of buckwheat plants and some other endemic products...
