Deputy Prime Minister, could you please tell us about Vietnam's contributions to the United Nations? How do you evaluate the achievements of cooperation between Vietnam and the United States?
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son: Over the past nearly 50 years, the relationship between Vietnam and the United Nations has been developing positively, deepening, and constantly being consolidated and strengthened.
During the stages of national reconstruction, post-war recovery, breaking the embargo and gradually integrating into the world, we have had the companionship and assistance of the United Nations.
Most recently, during the COVID-19 pandemic response, the United Nations promptly supported Vietnam in controlling the pandemic and recovering the economy.
Vietnam has become a reliable, active and responsible partner of the international community as well as the United Nations. We have participated more and more proactively and actively, and have made more and more substantial and extensive contributions in terms of ideas, human resources and resources in all areas of the United Nations' pillar activities on peacekeeping, security and development cooperation; including taking the lead in successfully implementing the Millennium Development Goals since the 2000s and currently actively implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, taking the lead in implementing the One United Nations initiative of the United Nations organizations in Vietnam, and actively participating in the major priorities of the United Nations on peace, development and ensuring human rights.
We are also trusted and have high expectations from the international community, and have successfully held many important positions at the United Nations. The United Nations leadership always highly appreciates Vietnam's role and contributions and hopes that Vietnam will continue to play an increasingly active role in the United Nations' priority areas.
Regarding Vietnam-US relations, after one year of implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, cooperation between the two countries has achieved many positive results in a number of areas.
Firstly, contacts and delegation exchanges have been taking place actively at all channels and levels. In addition to maintaining existing annual dialogue mechanisms, the two sides have successfully launched new annual dialogue mechanisms such as the Foreign Ministers' Dialogue, Economic Dialogue and Security and Law Enforcement Dialogue, thereby concretizing the commitments of the two sides in the 2023 Joint Statement.
Second, economic, trade and investment relations continue to be an important driving force for bilateral relations. Bilateral trade turnover in the first 8 months of 2024 reached nearly 88 billion USD, up 22%. Many large enterprises of the two countries are actively expanding investment in each other's markets, creating a strong intertwined relationship of interests.
Third, security and defense cooperation continues to be effectively implemented, in which cooperation in overcoming war consequences continues to be a priority and an important pillar in the bilateral relationship, achieving many substantive results; security and law enforcement cooperation is increasingly strengthened...
Fourth, the two sides continue to coordinate closely at important multilateral mechanisms and forums as well as substantive cooperation to respond to global issues.
Besides, on issues that still differ, the two sides will continue to strengthen dialogue in a frank and constructive spirit and pay attention to each other's legitimate interests.
