On the afternoon of January 24, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue received New Zealand Ambassador Tredene Dobson who came to say goodbye at the end of his term in Vietnam, according to VNA.
The National Assembly Chairman congratulated the Ambassador on completing his term in Vietnam. Appreciating the Ambassador's contributions to promoting relations between the two countries in general and between the two National Assemblies in particular, the National Assembly Chairman expressed his belief that in any position, the Ambassador will still maintain good feelings about the country and people of Vietnam and continue to make positive contributions to developing relations between the two countries in general and between the two legislative bodies in particular.
On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman sincerely thanked the New Zealand Embassy and Ambassador Tredene Dobson for their active support during the official visit to New Zealand in June 2022 of the high-ranking delegation of the Vietnamese National Assembly.
Ambassador Tredene Dobson expressed her emotions at the end of her term in Vietnam; expressed her gratitude for the important contributions of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in promoting the relationship between the two countries; and expressed her pride in all the common achievements that both sides have achieved during her three-year term as New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam.
Among the many achievements during her term, Ambassador Tredene Dobson especially emphasized the results achieved in promoting people-to-people exchange and implementing many cooperation projects in the fields of agriculture, defense, security, etc.
The Ambassador said that after 3 years of working, he has learned a lot about Vietnam, especially about the position, role and importance of the National Assembly in the Vietnamese political system.
The Ambassador affirmed the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between New Zealand and Vietnam; no matter what position he holds, he always puts Vietnam in a very special place in his heart and always strives to promote cooperation between the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue affirmed that he and the Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to create the most favorable conditions for the New Zealand Embassy and its successor, Ambassador Tredene Dobson, to operate, contributing to further promoting cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand in general and between the two countries' legislative bodies in particular.
Also on the afternoon of January 24, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son had a phone call with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand Winston Peters, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the phone call, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination between the two Foreign Ministries to promote cooperation between the two countries, expand delegation exchanges and high-level contacts, effectively implement the Action Program to implement the Vietnam - New Zealand Strategic Partnership for the 2021-2024 period, and soon negotiate and sign the Action Program for the new period.
The two sides agreed to promote trade and investment cooperation and effectively promote the mechanism of the Economic and Trade Cooperation Committee, and promote people-to-people exchanges through cooperation in education, labor, tourism, etc.
The two sides agreed to closely coordinate in preparation for the upcoming visit of the two countries' senior leaders, contributing to further developing bilateral relations in the new period.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Winston Peters emphasized that Vietnam is an important partner of New Zealand in the region in both geopolitics and economics; the two countries share many common views and visions on regional and world issues.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Winston Peters suggested that the two countries continue to study expanding cooperation in new areas such as climate change response, digital transformation... commensurate with the level of bilateral relations.
