Deputy Director General of the Korea Tourism Organization Lee Hak Ju said that Vietnam is the country with the 5th largest number of tourists visiting Korea globally and the largest in Southeast Asia. In 2023 alone, 420,000 Vietnamese tourists chose Korea as their destination. In the opposite direction, 3.6 million Koreans chose Vietnam as their destination.
In the first 4 months of 2024 alone, Vietnam welcomed 1.6 million Korean visitors, an increase of nearly 50% over the same period in 2023, accounting for nearly 26% of the total number of international visitors to Vietnam. In the opposite direction, Korea welcomed more than 167,000 Vietnamese visitors, an increase of 33% over the same period in 2023. It is expected that Korea will welcome 550,000 Vietnamese visitors in 2024, equal to the level of 2019.
