Speaking at the opening of the Program, Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Minorities Committee Hau A Lenh said that the Prime Minister has issued Decision No. 1719/QD/TTg on the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Phase I from 2021-2025. Among the 10 component projects of the Program, there is a separate Project (Project No. 5) dedicated to investing in education and training development, improving the quality of human resources in ethnic minority and mountainous areas.
From the close attention and policies of the Party and the State, the network of schools at all levels from preschool to general education in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has been consolidated and developed. Policies for teachers and learners have been given attention; the quality of teachers and educational managers has been improved; increasingly meeting the needs of educational innovation,...
The process of synchronous and effective implementation of policies on education and training development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas has gradually improved the quality of human resources. The young generation of ethnic minorities is increasingly participating in the apparatus of the Party, government, socio-political organizations, economic sectors... Many ethnic minority youth have become typical examples in their fields of work.
The number of ethnic minority students achieving high prizes in excellent student competitions; science and technology, culture and arts, and sports competitions at national, regional and international levels is increasing; Students passing university entrance exams with high scores, from 28 points or more, is no longer rare...
In order to promptly commend, encourage, create influence, and inspire the young generation of ethnic minorities to make more efforts, "surpass themselves", integrate and develop, and contribute more and more to the development of their homeland and country, the Ethnic Committee presided over and coordinated with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to organize the Commendation Ceremony for outstanding and exemplary ethnic minority students and youth in 2023. In addition, many graduates have had stable jobs and made significant contributions to the development of the locality.
Minister and Chairman of the Ethnic Committee Hau A Lenh hopes that the students and young people who were honored will continue to strive to achieve more results in the future; always be a shining example, inspiring and arousing the desire to reach out for the young generation of the whole country in general, ethnic minority and mountainous areas in particular, on the journey of joining hands and contributing to building the village, homeland and country to become more and more prosperous.
The ceremony honored 143 outstanding ethnic minority students, including 51 ethnic groups (including 12 ethnic groups with special difficulties, 13 of whom were honored); from 50 provinces and cities nationwide, with achievements: 38 students won First, Second, and Third prizes in the National Excellent Student Competition for the 2022-2023 school year; 4 students won First, Second, and Third prizes in the National Science and Technology Competition; 30 students were admitted to universities and academies with a total of 28 points or more according to the combination of three subjects for university admission (excluding priority points);
Along with 9 students from ethnic groups with special difficulties who were admitted to university; including 3 students from ethnic groups with a population of less than 1,000 people; 2 students won Gold and Bronze medals in national sports competitions; 29 young people with excellent achievements in work and successful startups; 31 students with outstanding achievements, selected by the provinces.
During the program, Vi Duong Phong, a Thai ethnic student, class 12A1, Nghe An Ethnic Minority High School, impressed everyone with his brocade fabric. This product is made from banana stems, pandan leaves and other seemingly discarded agricultural materials in Nghe An. This project helped Vi Duong Phong and his colleagues win a Gold Medal and a Special Prize at the International Science and Innovation Olympiad held in Korea.
From his initiative, Phong shared: “I hope that through the brocade fabric made from discarded materials, I will contribute to creating a typical product of my hometown. From there, I will contribute to promoting local culture to international friends.”

The Commendation Ceremony recognized many students with outstanding achievements such as: Dang Thi Tuyet, Dao ethnic group, in Lao Cai; Nong Thi Hong Hoa, Tay ethnic group, in Cao Bang, won First Prize in Geography in the 2023 National Excellent Student Competition; Tran Thanh Tu, Cho Ro ethnic group, in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, was admitted to University with 29.05 points and 3 years of high school with excellent grades; Lo Van Bien, Thai ethnic group, in Dien Bien, won 02 Gold Medals at the Southeast Asian Karate Championship and the 32nd Seagames; Vi Duong Phong, Thai ethnic group, in Nghe An, won a Gold Medal and Special Award at the 2023 International Scientific Invention and Creativity Olympiad.
