Russia-Ukraine war today, November 13, 2024: Ukraine destroyed the dam, blocking Russia's advance in Kurakhove. Information from Ukraine has confirmed the information.
A member of the Aidar Battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), Stanislav Bunyatov, nicknamed Osman, described the situation in the settlements west of Kurakhovo in the Donetsk region after the Kurakhovsky reservoir dam burst. Accordingly, several settlements in the direction of the village of Bogatyr in the Velikonovoselkovsky district were submerged in water.
Specifically, roads in the area are still usable, but are limited to high ground within settlements.

Kurakovsky reservoir breach confirmed
The Donetsk Regional Military Administration has officially confirmed the damage to the Kurakhovsky reservoir dam. The head of the agency, Vadim Filashkin, stressed that the flooding could pose a threat to residents of settlements on the Volchya River, “both in the Donetsk and Dnieper regions.”
Currently, the water level of the Volchaya River has risen to 1.2m. However, floodwaters have not yet reached residential areas.
AFU destroys dam to slow down Russian army advance
On November 11, reports emerged that Russian troops had surrounded Kurakhovo. One of the Russian servicemen said that several reconnaissance units were present in the city and that fierce fighting was taking place. The AFU also confirmed the tense situation in Kurakhovo.
The Telegram channel “Military Correspondent of the Russian Spring” assessed: “It is clear that the AFU decided to blow up the dam in order to slow down the advance of the Russian army”. According to military expert, reserve colonel 1st rank Vasily Dandykin, this event shows that the AFU was forced to “say goodbye to this area”. He noted that this direction is very important. The Russian military expert emphasized: “ This is one of the most fortified defense centers. After this settlement, you can strike anywhere up to Dnepropetrovsk ”.
The Kurakovsky Dam breach affected the Russian advance.
Military expert Boris Rozhin assessed the impact of the Kurakhovskoye reservoir dam explosion on the offensive of the Russian Armed Forces.
“ Will this save the Kurakhov group of the AFU? No, because in addition to the attack from the north or the attack from the south on the same road they are trying to defend, there is an attack on the eastern outskirts. And there is also an attack from the southeast - from the direction of Epiphany ,” Boris Rozhin said.
At the same time, the expert clarified that the speed of advance of the Russian Armed Forces through the flooded area may be slightly slower.
Russia launched a massive attack on Kurakhove.
According to Rybar channel, the Russian army continues to attack from many directions, systematically approaching to defeat the enemy in Kurakhove.
On the northern flank, the Russian army has taken control of Voznesenka, Novoselidovka, Ilyinka and is advancing towards Berestky. At the same time, there is no objective control footage that could confirm a breakthrough.
In addition, the Russians were advancing rapidly across the fields near Novoalekseevka and into Sontsevka. On the eastern flank of Kurakhove, the Russian troops entered from Maksimovka, and the fighting shifted to the outskirts of the city. At the same time, Russian assault units fiercely attacked Dolgaya with the aim of encircling the enemy in this area. Thus, within a week, the Russian troops advanced more than 5 km, creating the threat of encircling Kurakhove.
To the south, Russian troops advanced north and east of Bogoyavlenka, driving the enemy out of the forest belt and continuing the attack on Vesely Gai. Currently, information about the change of hands of Trudovoy with the next attack on the Uspenivka settlement is being verified.
In the Maksimovka area, according to preliminary data, the Russian side intercepted and destroyed a special operations group of the 10th Special Forces Regiment of the Main Directorate of Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (GUR).
There are also reports of Russian advance groups moving deeper into Elizavetovka but there is no official confirmation yet. In the western suburbs of Antonovka, there is still a small presence of Ukrainian troops.
Ukraine counterattacks fiercely in Kursk
Rybar channel said that on the Kursk front, the Russian army continued to regain territories captured by the enemy.
In the Sudzha district, the AFU tried to attack Russian positions near Novoyivanovka and Nikolayevo - Daryino, but did not achieve significant results, and even received a counterattack from the Russian side.
In the Pogrebki area, the recent movement of Russian armored vehicles along the road towards Malaya Loknya confirmed that this settlement has come under Moscow's control.
In the Korenevo district, another attack by the AFU armored group east of Kremyanoye was repelled. There is also confirmed information that the area of the Verkhnyaya Bloshka ravine and the Verkhny Shpil road were taken over by the Russian side after defeating the enemy.
