In the first half, the Indonesian team unexpectedly pushed up their formation, causing many difficulties for Philippe Troussier's team with their high speed and abundant physical strength, and found a goal in the 40th minute when Asnawi Mangkualam scored from the 11m mark, after Thanh Binh pulled Struick's shirt in the home team's penalty area. In this half, the Vietnamese team hardly created any clear opportunities.

The Vietnamese team could not change the score in the first half and accepted defeat with a minimum score of 0-1. In the final round of Group D, Vietnam will meet Iraq, the team that just surprisingly defeated the championship candidate Japan with a score of 2-1 to win the first ticket of Group D to the knockout round.
After 2 rounds, the Vietnamese team still has no points and is at the bottom of the table. Losing 0-1 to Indonesia, the Vietnamese team had to stop at the tournament. Because in the Asian Cup, the head-to-head score is calculated first, therefore, we cannot continue even though we have 1 last match against Iraq before the end of the group stage.
