Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien.

Sharing with Nguoi Dua Tin , Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien said: “By the end of 11 months, Vietnam had exported 7.75 million tons of rice with a value of 4.41 billion USD, an increase of 36.3% compared to last year. We have 85% new rice varieties, 89% high-quality rice, this is the advantage of Vietnamese rice”.

This is the best result since the rice industry entered the world market. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development believes that in 2024, the rice market will continue to be vibrant as some countries increase imports to ensure food security.

With the great victory of Vietnamese rice, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development commented that the products honored as the world's best rice, especially the ST25 rice brand that once again achieved this title, have affirmed the value and brand of Vietnamese rice in the international arena.

From the years of subsidy, when food had to be imported, in 2023, Vietnam exported about 8 million tons of rice. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed that in the coming time, he will continue to expand the award-winning rice varieties and research many new rice varieties with high yield, good quality and enhance the position of Vietnamese rice.

In 2024, the rice market will continue to be vibrant as some countries increase imports to ensure food security.

On the morning of December 1, at the press conference of the Vietnam - Hau Giang International Rice Festival 2023, Director of the Department of Crop Production (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) Nguyen Nhu Cuong said: "Currently, the rice industry has achieved remarkable and proud achievements. We have a set of extremely good rice varieties, high yield, good quality, short duration, with conditions for crop arrangement, avoiding weather and climate conditions, pests and diseases; have a cultivation process that reduces input materials to adapt to climate change".

According to Mr. Cuong, every year, about 100 thousand hectares are converted from rice cultivation to socio-economic service purposes. However, in 2023, over 43 million tons of rice will still be guaranteed.

The rice industry has begun to transform into green, circular production, exploiting multiple values in rice production, harmoniously and effectively using input and output stages of rice production to bring about the highest efficiency, instead of ecological production that reduces productivity and output.

"We still ensure productivity, but reduce costs and increase people's income," said Mr. Cuong .
