As of December 2024, this Asian country recorded 451,700 companies operating in the field of intelligent robots, with a total investment of up to 884.27 billion USD. Since 2020, the number of companies in the industry has increased by 206.73%, showing a steady growth trend.
The smart robot industry is witnessing a strong rise of Chinese companies.
In the past year alone, the intelligent robot industry recorded a growth rate of 19.39%, reflecting strong demand and investment in robot technology in China. Most intelligent robot companies in China operate in the fields of scientific research, technical services, information technology and sales, accounting for nearly 80% of the total number of enterprises in the industry.
Geographically, eastern China dominates, accounting for more than two-thirds of all robot companies. Meanwhile, central and northwestern China also maintain a strong presence, accounting for 15.33% and 14.97% of all companies, respectively.
Pushing humanoid robots
China’s current goal is to push the boundaries in humanoid robotics with companies like UBTech, Unitree Robotics, CloudMinds, and Engine AI. UBTech has partnered with Foxconn to bring robots to production, while Unitree launched its G1 humanoid robot in July 2024.
Leading automakers such as BYD and Geely are also integrating humanoid robots into their production lines. China’s investment in humanoid robotics is also strong, with the country taking on 56 of the 69 global sponsorship events by 2024, totaling $1.5 billion.
The Chinese government has placed a high priority on developing its robotics industry. By 2025, the country aims to establish a world-class humanoid robot industry capable of mass production. Policies in cities like Beijing and Zhejiang are focused on promoting innovation in robotics, supporting startups, and strengthening supply chains.
