More than 80 tamarind trees planted on Le Loi Street, District 1, help increase green space and create shade for the busy street in the central area after more than a year of returning the land.

The newly planted trees are over 10 cm in diameter and 4-5 m high, arranged in squares on the sidewalk and median strip of Le Loi Street, from the City Theater to Ben Thanh Market. On December 11, workers made iron and wooden frames around these trees to protect them. There were already old trees on the other side of the road, so no new trees were planted.
A representative of the Technical Infrastructure Management Center, Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, said that the 84 newly planted tamarind trees along Le Loi Street are part of the landscape improvement plan after more than a year of the Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) project clearing the ground.

Le Loi Street is nearly one kilometer long, near Ben Thanh Market and Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and is one of the busiest commercial and service streets in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. In March this year, after the street was cleared, the Department of Planning and Architecture proposed installing a canopy along the sidewalk to create shade, protect from the rain, and create a pedestrian space, at a cost of 20-30 billion VND.
The above solution was proposed by the Department in the context that Le Loi Street cannot immediately be equipped with large enough trees to serve the walking and shopping needs of residents and tourists. However, this plan has not been implemented yet.
