Over 8.6 million employees benefited
According to the quick report of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) on the situation of labor relations and the results of caring for union members and workers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, with the motto "All union members and workers have Tet", the activities to care for Tet of all levels of trade unions have been deployed in a diverse, flexible and concentrated manner at the grassroots level, ensuring convenience for union members to participate; suitable to the conditions and reality of the locality and unit.
The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor continues to organize the online program "Trade Union Tet Market 2025" to give Tet shopping vouchers to union members and workers nationwide via the website: chotet.Congdoan.vn. The General Confederation of Labor has given 200,000 shopping vouchers to union members and workers with a value of 500,000 VND/voucher. The program "Trade Union Tet Market 2025" organized by the General Confederation in Hai Phong city, with a scale of over 200 booths with nearly 200 participating enterprises and units, has attracted over 40,000 union members and workers to participate. Thereby, contributing to improving the material life of union members and workers on Tet holiday.
Along with that is the activity of supporting means of transport for union members and employees to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet and return to work on the occasion of the Lunar New Year At Ty 2025. Trade Unions at all levels have actively implemented support for buying train, bus and plane tickets for union members and employees who are still in difficulty to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet. Over 45,500 union members and employees and their relatives have been able to return to their hometowns to celebrate Tet on buses, trains and planes, with a total amount of over 40 billion VND.
At the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor level, the "Trade Union Flight - Spring 2025" was organized with 2 flights, bringing 450 union members and workers in southern provinces and cities back to their hometowns in southern provinces and cities to celebrate Tet; organized the "Trade Union Train - Spring 2025...
In addition, activities to care for the Lunar New Year 2025 continue to be organized at 4 levels of the Trade Union, focusing on the grassroots level. Priority care is given to employees in especially difficult circumstances, those who have suffered work-related accidents, occupational diseases, serious illnesses, natural disasters, storms and floods; employees who lack or have lost their jobs; employees who are policy families, ethnic minorities or have not had the opportunity to return home to reunite with their families during the Lunar New Year for many years; employees who do not return home to celebrate Tet to work, work, or produce.
Incomplete reports from localities and units during the 2025 Lunar New Year show that over 8.6 million union members and employees have benefited from the care activities of the Trade Union, with a total budget of over VND 4,750.5 billion. Of which, the trade union's financial resources are VND 3,054.5 billion; calling for social support to support the funding source for caring for union members and employees is VND 1,696 billion (accounting for 35.7%).
Lunar New Year Bonus increased by 13%
Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Phan Van Anh said that according to the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the average salary of employees in 2024 is estimated at 8.88 million VND/month, an increase of 4% compared to 2023. Of which, a single-member LLC with 100% state capital is 10.91 million VND/month; a private enterprise is 8.1 million VND/month; and a foreign-invested enterprise is 9.28 million VND/month.
In particular, the average bonus for the Lunar New Year 2025 is 7.72 million VND, a 13% increase compared to the Lunar New Year 2024 bonus. Of which, a one-member LLC with 100% state capital is 7.66 million VND/person; a private enterprise is 6.76 million VND/person; a foreign-invested enterprise is 8.24 million VND/person.
Regarding the labor relations situation, there have been many positive changes. However, in 2024, there were 76 collective work stoppages nationwide, an increase of 18 compared to the same period in 2023. Collective work stoppages occurred mainly in FDI enterprises, concentrated in large provinces and cities in the southern key economic region with 44/76 strikes, accounting for 57.89% of the total number of strikes; in industrial parks, export processing zones, and economic zones with 44/76 strikes, accounting for 57.89% of the total number of strikes.
Notably, before the Lunar New Year 2025 (December 2024 and January 2025), there were 7 labor disputes and collective work stoppages nationwide in 5 provinces and cities, a decrease of 8 cases compared to the period before the Lunar New Year 2024. Collective work stoppages decreased in both nature and scale.
The main reason leading to labor disputes and work stoppages before Tet is because employees do not agree with the Tet bonus level of the enterprise, do not agree with changes in the way of calculating salaries and bonuses...
"As soon as disputes and collective work stoppages occurred, the provincial and municipal Labor Federations and trade unions at all levels proactively and promptly coordinated with relevant agencies to directly guide, support and resolve the issues," said Phan Van Anh, Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
In general, through the process of dialogue and negotiation between the employer and the labor collective with the support, guidance and witnessing of the authorities, most of the labor requests were resolved in whole or in part by the employer, after which the labor collective returned to work normally.
On the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, the Hanoi City Labor Confederation has supported 48,000 workers in difficulty, with a total amount of over 42 billion VND. In addition, the City Labor Confederation has supported 5,000 bus tickets in cash for workers with a total amount of 1.77 billion VND; supported means of transport to bring 1,200 workers of the Trade Union of Industrial and Export Processing Zones back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families, with destinations being Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh and some northern provinces. At the same time, the Labor Confederations of districts, towns, and industry Trade Unions have also deployed and organized programs to support means of transport and train tickets to bring workers in difficulty in the area back to their hometowns to celebrate Tet with their families.
