On August 23, 2024 in Hanoi, Traphaco Joint Stock Company and the Vietnam - Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST) organized a workshop on "Diversification of products from Polyscias fruticosa - Opportunities and Challenges", an important event within the framework of science and technology (S&T) tasks under the Vietnam - Korea Protocol. This workshop marks an important step forward in exploiting and sustainably developing the Polyscias fruticosa value chain in Vietnam. 
Dr. Nguyen Huy Van - Deputy General Director of Traphaco Joint Stock Company presented on the research on sustainable development of the Polyscias value chain in Vietnam Sustainable development of the Polyscias value chain The S&T task "Screening biological effects and determining active chemical components of some Polyscias species in Vietnam", code NĐT.90.KR/20, is the result of cooperation between Vietnam and Korea. With a total budget of 3.8 billion VND from the Vietnamese State and 150,000 USD from the Korean side, the task was deployed from September 9, 2020 and lasted until September 9, 2024, including a 12-month extension. The host unit of the task is VKIST, while Traphaco Joint Stock Company is the main beneficiary of the results from the task. The main objectives of the mission included screening the potential biological effects of Vietnamese Polyscias fruticosa species and identifying the active chemical constituents from selected samples. The mission has contributed significantly to the sustainable development of the value chain from Polyscias fruticosa, especially Polyscias fruticosa, a familiar species in the Vietnamese pharmacopoeia. The research results not only supplement and upgrade the quality standards for medicinal materials from Polyscias roots, stems, leaves, and extracts, but also open up many new research directions for the development of medicinal resources from other Polyscias species such as Polyscias fruticosa, Polyscias fruticosa, and Polyscias fruticosa.

This workshop is an opportunity for researchers, businesses, and stakeholders to discuss the potential and challenges in diversifying products from the Polyscias plant. Here, Traphaco Joint Stock Company contributed 2 papers: "Research on sustainable development of the Polyscias value chain in Vietnam" by Dr. Nguyen Huy Van and "Fingerprint set of Polyscias samples collected in Vietnam" by Ms. Vu Huong Thuy. With the economic, social, and environmental values that the Polyscias plant brings, the Polyscias value chain in Vietnam promises to develop even more strongly in the future. However, there are also many challenges that need to be overcome, including issues of policy, technical standards, intellectual property protection, and access to capital. Dr. Nguyen Huy Van - Deputy General Director of Traphaco shared that, with the vision of "Unleashing Vietnamese values", he is committed to continuing to invest and develop products from Polyscias fruticosa, contributing to the sustainable development of the Vietnamese medicinal herbs industry. With a cultivation area of over 300 hectares and an annual consumption output of over 2,000 tons, Polyscias fruticosa is increasingly asserting its position in the medicinal herbs industry. It is expected that the total value of products from Polyscias fruticosa will reach about 5,000 billion VND by 2025, opening up great potential for medicinal herbs products in Vietnam.
