14 years old can sit up
Visiting the shop "Little Master Ha Giang" in Xuan Lam ward (Thuan Thanh town, Bac Ninh), it was not difficult for us to understand the name that the owner gave to the shop, because the owner Tran Van Ha is only about 1 meter tall and has never weighed more than 30 kg.
Mr. Ha (sitting in a chair) during a volunteer trip in the highlands.
Although it is still just a rented shop, inside it is filled with the laughter of the family and the hard work of the father and mother with a series of jobs to make a living such as: Facebook security, gas exchange, photocopying service and even MC for events for the disabled.
To have happy days like today, Mr. Ha had to go through a stormy childhood and at times fell into extreme poverty, not knowing where the way out was.
Ha was born in 1990 in a poor family in Quy Hop town (Quy Hop district, Nghe An). Both parents were healthy, Ha's older sister and younger sister were also born normally, but Ha was born with brittle bones and could only lie in one place. It was not until she was 14 that Ha learned to sit up amid excruciating bone pain.
Ha's parents lived together for 8 years before getting divorced. Ha was ordered by the court to live with her father. Not long after, Ha's father remarried. Ha's mother asked to take Ha back to raise in a dilapidated house. Mrs. Lam, Ha's mother, only collected charcoal to sell to raise her 3 children. However, God loved her, Ha and her sisters still grew up in their mother's loving arms.
At the age of 17, Ha decided to leave her mother and go to Ho Chi Minh City to start a career. Mrs. Lam strongly disagreed, because Ha still needed help with most of her daily activities. Being away from home alone, a mother like Mrs. Lam could not feel at ease. But Ha convinced her mother with all her heart and determination, and in the end, she agreed.
Saigon is splendid but generous with humanity. Wherever Ha goes, people help her. Ha applied to be the assistant director of An Phuc disability facility for 2 years, but she was forced to return home because her mother was seriously ill.
During her time in Ho Chi Minh City, Ha was exposed to a lot of technology, especially how to secure Facebook accounts. Initially, friends who lost their accounts or needed to upgrade their security came to Ha for help.
Seeing the improved efficiency and safety, many people told each other about the "tech genius" whenever they needed help, including some famous people with large interactions on Facebook. Gradually, Ha formed a Facebook security service and had a certain number of customers.
Mr. Ha regularly participates in charity activities.
The love story "Snow White and the Dwarf"
Looking at Ha like that, few people would have guessed that Ha's wife was an ordinary person, or even a pretty, tall, young girl (8 years younger than Ha) and as white as Snow White. The two met thanks to Ha's job as a Facebook security guard.
Once, Lo Thi Giang (a Thai ethnic girl from the same district) asked Ha to keep her personal Facebook page confidential. After finishing the job, Giang still chatted with Ha regularly. Having also suffered many losses, Giang and Ha easily sympathized and understood each other. After a while, they officially dated.
The time they were in love was only 9 months but full of challenges and obstacles. Many people criticized that the girl only "loved" Ha for fun and would never marry a severely disabled person like Ha. But Giang's feelings for Ha were very sincere, pure and she always dreamed of "a thatched hut, two golden hearts".
One fine day at the end of the year, Ha decided to roll her wheelchair to Giang's house to propose, even though she knew she would face strong opposition from Giang's family. Ha only brought an engagement ring and a strong love. As expected, Ha and Giang's marriage was opposed by her family. However, above all, their love was still preserved and protected.
Their wedding took place in May 2017. Instead of the groom leading the bride down the aisle, the bride carried the groom (who weighed only 21 kg at the time) into the wedding hall, to the admiration of both families, friends, and neighbors.
"We didn't hire a photographer for our wedding because we didn't have the money, but we had a lot of beautiful pictures. We didn't have a multi-tiered wedding cake, but there were a lot of tears of joy for us," Ha confided.
Giang said, "Mr. Ha has a sincere heart, I am willing to be your legs for the rest of my life, as long as husband and wife love each other sincerely, they will go through life together."
Baby Tran Thien An was born healthy, the crystallization of the sweet fruit of Mr. Ha and Ms. Giang. The couple's fairy tale of love is still compared by neighbors to the romantic "Snow White and the Dwarf".
The heart radiates the fragrance of lotus
Despite living in poverty and suffering many grievances in life, Ha and Ha's mother both had noble dreams and wanted to contribute to the community. Mrs. Lam once dreamed of becoming a doctor, but her family's conditions did not allow it, so her life was miserable and difficult. After many sleepless nights of thinking, Mrs. Lam decided to donate her body to medicine after her death and unexpectedly received support from her son.
Mr. Ha was honored to receive a certificate of merit in the Shining Vietnamese Willpower 2022 program organized by the Vietnam Youth Union.
Then, one day at the end of 2015, the mother and daughter traveled from Nghe An to Hanoi to register to donate their bodies, surprising many doctors and nurses working at the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center.
Although Ha's small family is still struggling to make ends meet, he is always willing to help the needy and disabled and often calls on benefactors to support charity. Currently, he helps with accommodation for 3 disabled friends, even though his family is still renting a room. Ha "boasted" to me about his piggy bank, from each gas tank he exchanged, he put 5,000 VND in it to give gifts to needy patients, which has been maintained for several years now.
Even during the Covid-19 pandemic, work was delayed and income was almost zero, but Mr. Ha and his wife decided to break the piggy bank they had saved for nearly 2 years, taking 14 million VND to support the Nghe An Northwest Regional General Hospital to fight the epidemic. At the end of 2021, Mr. Ha and his wife donated 13.8 million VND to give an electric wheelchair to Ms. Quyet in Chau Dinh commune (Quy Hop district) who is in very difficult circumstances so that she can take her children to school every day.
While Ms. Giang was pregnant, Mr. Ha organized the event "Free Used Clothes Market" that he had mobilized from benefactors to give clothes to nearly 300 poor households in Chau Quang commune, Quy Hop town.
Ha said that once his wife went to change gas 8 km from home, to a very poor family with a child with cerebral palsy. Giang bought 2 boxes of Ong Tho milk to give to his sister and then came back to tell Ha about the past 4 years that she had not received disability benefits. A few days later, Ha came to the house and helped the family with the monthly benefits. When the child died, Ha was able to raise some money to support the family's funeral, a memory that has made Ha tearful for many years.
After saying goodbye to Mr. Ha and his wife, the "young master" told me that he would soon open a chain of coffee shops managed by disabled people he knew, and at the same time support teaching Facebook security skills to some of them, helping them stabilize their livelihoods in the long term. As for his goodwill, he would help wherever he could, without expecting gratitude or needing to list them to show off.
