On October 28, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board launched a 50-day and night peak emulation movement to complete the task of putting Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) into official operation by the end of 2024.
Metro Line 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) will be commercially operational by the end of 2024.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, the project's progress is currently over 98%, basically completing construction, equipment installation on site, and training train drivers and operators.
The unit also launched a 50-day and night peak emulation movement to complete the task of putting Metro Line 1 into operation in 2024.
Mr. Phan Cong Bang, Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board, said that from now until December 20, the Urban Railway Management Board and Urban Railway Company No. 1 must carry out a very large and complicated amount of work, handle long-standing backlog issues and must have close coordination with central agencies, departments and branches of the city.
After more than 10 years of construction, the entire project has completed 98% of the volume.
Currently, the construction work on Metro Line 1 has basically been completed, with only a few small items being constructed by contractors, and equipment installation is expected to be completed by October 31.
The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board is simultaneously carrying out tasks such as fire prevention and fighting acceptance, system safety assessment, test run, inspection, and State Council acceptance.
"The current workload is still large, the unit needs to have a competition so that all officials and employees can make efforts and work at 200% productivity to solve it. The project has no time to delay, so we really need the support, efforts and determination of the entire system," said Mr. Bang.
Metro Line 1 is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total investment of more than VND43,700 billion, nearly 20 km long, from Long Binh depot, Thu Duc to Ben Thanh, District 1. In addition to 11 elevated stations, the line also has three underground stations in the city center: Ben Thanh, City Theater and Ba Son.
Metro Line 1 project started in August 2012. After more than 10 years of construction, the entire project has completed 98% of the volume, but is facing many obstacles due to disputes, claims for additional costs of nearly 4,000 billion, and disagreements from contractors.
