General Secretary To Lam receives General Secretary of the United Left Movement Party of the Dominican Republic

On the afternoon of December 12, at the Party Central Committee headquarters, General Secretary To Lam warmly received Comrade Miguel Mejia, General Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) Party and Minister of Regional Integration Policy of the Dominican Republic, who is visiting and working in Vietnam. The Dominican Republic is a developing country with the fastest growing economy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

General Secretary To Lam welcomed Comrade Miguel Mejia's return visit to Vietnam in the context of the two countries preparing to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (2005-2025); expressed his joy at the positive results in the relationship between the two parties and the two countries in recent times, including: visit The success of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to the Dominican Republic last November 2024.

General Secretary To Lam congratulated the victory of the United Left Movement Party after the general election in May 2024; acknowledged and appreciated the positive contributions of the United Left Movement Party and General Secretary Miguel Mejia personally to the Vietnam-Dominica relationship, notably the restoration of the statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the capital Santo Domingo, connecting and promoting economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

Comrade To Lam affirmed that Vietnam attaches importance to and wishes to continue to strengthen friendly and cooperative relations with the Dominican Republic, with the MIU Party and other ruling and participating political parties in Dominica, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for peace, stability and development in the two regions and in the world.

General Secretary To Lam asked Comrade Miguel Mejia to help convey greetings and invite President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader to visit Vietnam in 2025 so that the two sides can continue to effectively implement the agreements and commitments reached during recent high-level visits, focusing on promoting economic cooperation, facilitating businesses to invest and do business in each country, especially in areas where both sides have strengths and needs such as telecommunications, oil and gas, agriculture, culture, tourism, and marine exploitation; and boosting bilateral trade in the coming time.

General Secretary of the United Left Movement Miguel Mejia respectfully conveyed the greetings of President Luis Abinader to General Secretary To Lam; congratulated Comrade To Lam on being elected to the position of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and expressed his belief that under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam headed by Comrade General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will successfully complete the set goals, develop strongly and rise up in the new era.

General Secretary Miguel Mejia said that the United Left Movement Party, along with other political parties and the Dominican Government, highly valued and appreciated Vietnam's position and role in the international arena and wished to promote bilateral relations in depth, effectively and practically. He discussed the specific results achieved through the recent visit of the Vietnamese high-ranking delegation, in which the two sides agreed to urge relevant agencies of the two countries to implement cooperation agreements in many fields, focusing on telecommunications, oil and gas, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.

General Secretary Miguel Mejia affirmed that he will make efforts to strengthen political trust between the United Left Movement Party and major political parties in Dominica and the Communist Party of Vietnam; committed to supporting Vietnam in international issues and at multilateral forums of which both are members. The General Secretary of the United Left Movement Party respectfully invited General Secretary To Lam to visit the Dominican Republic. General Secretary To Lam happily accepted the invitation and will arrange the visit at an appropriate time.

Previously, within the framework of the visit and work in Vietnam, the high-ranking delegation of the United Left Movement Party had an exchange with comrade Le Hoai Trung, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's External Relations Commission; visited and worked with leaders of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group Viettel and the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group; visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, laid flowers at the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the statue of Dominican Republic celebrity Professor Juan Bosch at Hoa Binh Park, Hanoi.
