The delegation included Politburo members: General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security. Party Central Committee Secretary, Chief of the Central Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc; leaders of several central departments, ministries, and agencies, and Quang Tri province also attended.
In a solemn and emotional atmosphere, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation respectfully offered flowers and incense, and observed a minute of silence to commemorate and pay tribute to the great contributions of the heroes and martyrs who heroically sacrificed their lives in the 81-day and night campaign to protect the Citadel and Quang Tri town.
During our people's resistance war against the US to save the country, Quang Tri Citadel has recorded in the history of the nation a shining golden milestone of revolutionary heroism through the heroic and resilient fight to protect the Citadel and Quang Tri town during 81 historic days and nights, the fiery summer of 1972 of our army and people, contributing significantly to the victory at the negotiating table to reach the Paris Agreement in 1973, creating momentum for our army and people to launch a stormy, lightning-fast attack to create the great victory of the historic Spring of 1975, completely liberating the South, and unifying the country.
General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation also laid wreaths and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the National Road 9 Martyrs' Cemetery, the eternal resting place of more than 10,800 heroic martyrs from across the country who fought, served in combat and heroically sacrificed on the Road 9 Front, the Quang Tri battlefield and the neighboring country of Laos during the resistance war against the US to save the country and gain national independence. With sincere respect, before the souls of the heroes and martyrs, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation expressed their infinite gratitude and deep appreciation for the great contributions of the heroes and martyrs who devoted their youth, bravely fought and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the country.
At the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, the resting place of 10,263 martyrs nationwide, mainly martyrs of Group 559 - Truong Son Army, who sacrificed their lives during the resistance war against the US to save the country, the General Secretary, President and the delegation observed a minute of silence to commemorate the great contributions of the heroic martyrs from all over the beloved Vietnam who devoted their youth, blood and bones for the independence, freedom of the country and the happiness of the people, currently resting at the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery.
* Previously, respectfully offering incense in memory of General Secretary Le Duan at the Memorial Site in Hau Kien village, Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for General Secretary Le Duan's great contributions to the cause of national liberation and reunification.
Writing in the golden book at the Memorial Area, the General Secretary and President stated: “Comrade Le Duan’s entire life and career contributed to the cause of national liberation and the building of socialism, and the development of Vietnam. Comrade Le Duan’s great contributions and contributions have made Vietnam a famous country and will last forever in the glorious and heroic history of the nation.”
The memorial area of General Secretary Le Duan is a place to express the extremely noble sentiments and hearts, gratitude and respect of the entire Party and people in general, of the Party Committee and people of Quang Tri in particular, towards an outstanding leader of the nation, a steadfast soldier of the international communist and workers' movement, an excellent student of President Ho Chi Minh, an outstanding son of his homeland Quang Tri.
