Volunteers and local people join hands to clean up Ha Long city

Nearly 100 volunteers and local people participated in the "Join hands to clean up Ha Long" campaign to collect waste after typhoon Yagi .

Ha Long is known as one of the island tourist destinations that attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. However, nearly two weeks after Typhoon Yagi passed, this place is still littered with garbage from fishermen's cages and ships that sank in Typhoon Yagi.

Responding to the campaign “Join hands to clean Ha Long” launched by LuxGroup, nearly 100 volunteers from Hanoi, local people and environmental workers in Ha Long city gathered at the central beach of Tuan Chau beach to collect waste.

As planned, in the afternoon of the same day, the volunteer group moved to Ha Long Bay. Here, the group divided into two groups to collect trash in Ha Long Bay and at Tuan Chau international port.

At Tuan Chau International Port, La Thi Thanh Phuong, a student of the Faculty of Tourism, University of Commerce, said she was "shocked" to witness the terrible devastation caused by the storm in Ha Long. Wishing to do something meaningful to help Ha Long, she was very excited to sign up as a volunteer.

It is estimated that on September 21, the volunteer group collected about 5 trucks containing 2 tons of various types of waste: plastic, foam, nylon, bamboo... This waste will be classified and processed according to environmental standards of Quang Ninh province, in which priority will be given to recycling materials that can be reused.

Since Typhoon Yagi, the amount of garbage has increased dramatically. Some organizations and people in Ha Long have spontaneously set up volunteer groups to clean up garbage on Ha Long beach every day.

In Ha Long Bay, the Luxury Cruise Company (Emperor Cruises and Heritage Cruises), which specializes in organizing cruise services in Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay, also organizes daily staff cleaning up the bay.

However, with the current huge amount of garbage, this work really needs the cooperation of many more organizations and individual volunteers to come to Ha Long, to help this place quickly clean up the garbage, restore the inherent beauty of nature to quickly welcome international visitors before the peak tourist season.
