On the morning of May 22, in Da Nang city, the Department of Asia - Africa Market (Ministry of Industry and Trade), Vietnam Halal Certification Office coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang city to organize a workshop on "Halal market prospects and solutions to exploit and access the Halal market".

Workshop "Halal market prospects and solutions to exploit and approach the Halal market".

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City said that the market of Muslim countries is a large and rapidly growing market globally. In particular, the Halal industry in general and Halal food in particular are large in scale and have high development potential in all continents from Asia, Africa to Europe and America. This is an opportunity for businesses to expand their business activities.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Hanh, with its strengths in processing industry, especially food processing industry, Vietnam has many opportunities to export to the Halal market. And in fact, many localities and businesses are interested in exporting to this market. However, the business community does not have enough information about culture, consumer habits, as well as information about the market, trade regulations... to be able to access the domestic and foreign Halal market.

Therefore, in recent times, agencies, departments and branches from the central to local levels have organized many activities from disseminating information related to the Halal market; perfecting mechanisms and policies in import and export activities; to trade promotion activities to support businesses to access and effectively participate in this market...

"For Da Nang, in addition to tourism being identified as a key economic sector, export activities are also the city's strength, with key export products, typical and distinctive products, OCOP... In that direction, Da Nang is assessed to have potential in exporting to Muslim markets and can attract tourists from Muslim markets to Da Nang", Mr. Nguyen Huu Hanh informed and added that in order to exploit, approach and develop the Halal market, building infrastructure, supply chains, ensuring compliance with Halal regulations and standards are issues for businesses in exporting as well as providing tourism services.

At the Workshop, through direct support and consultation activities from experts from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Vietnam Halal Certification Office, agencies, organizations and businesses have grasped information about the markets of Muslim countries, the requirements for Halal certification for the food industry, as well as for restaurants and hotels, thereby being able to access and expand exports to the Halal market.

Ms. Nguyen Minh Phuong - Head of West Asia - Africa Department (Asia - Africa Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade) said that Vietnamese enterprises are increasingly interested in and investing more in production processes, improving product quality to achieve Halal certification. However, Vietnam is only participating in the Halal market at the early stage, has not really captured a significant market share in the Halal field, and the export capacity of Vietnamese Halal products is still low. In addition, Halal is a concept that is little known, regulations on Halal examination and certification tend to be increasingly stricter, more diverse and more complex. Moreover, the export of Halal products by Vietnamese enterprises is also subject to fierce competition from countries in the region.

Therefore, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has continued to create a favorable legal framework for international cooperation to develop the Halal industry in Vietnam; negotiate and sign trade agreements; and support Vietnamese organizations and enterprises to work and learn with agencies and distribution systems of countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, etc.

In addition, to build and develop the Halal industry in Vietnam, relevant units need to promote the distribution of Vietnamese products with Halal certification to both meet the needs of exporters and expand the production and export of Halal products in Vietnam.
