Northern hydropower plants generate electricity at a moderate rate, while thermal power plants still have many problems.

In a report sent to Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on June 19, the Department of Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment said that the northern provinces have entered the rainy and flood season. However, the water level in hydropower reservoirs is still low.

Many large hydroelectric reservoirs in the North have escaped dead water levels but are still generating electricity at a moderate rate.

Specifically, on June 18, the water flow to Lai Chau hydroelectric reservoir was 810 m3 /s; Son La hydroelectric reservoir was 251 m3 /s; Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir was 857 m3 /s; Thac Ba hydroelectric reservoir was 128 m3 /s; Tuyen Quang hydroelectric reservoir was 253 m3 /s; Ban Chat hydroelectric reservoir was 85 m3 /s.

According to forecasts, the amount of water added to hydroelectric reservoirs in the North will not be high in the coming time, so factories in the North and North Central regions will mainly regulate water to ensure minimum flow, and generate electricity moderately to ensure the safety of generators during operation; at the same time, prepare for the upcoming hot days.

Regarding the supply from thermal power, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnam Electricity Group said that up to now, there are still some generators having problems, having to temporarily stop generating electricity, affecting the power supply in the North.

Specifically, some coal-fired thermal power plants had to reduce power generation due to incidents such as: Thang Long Thermal Power Plant had 1 unit generating power at 9:40 a.m. on June 18, but then at 11:34 a.m. it had another incident. In addition, Mong Duong 1 Thermal Power Plant stopped generating power due to an incident with unit 1 at 4:15 p.m. and at 10:12 p.m. it was partially reconnected to the grid. In addition, unit S1 of Nghi Son Thermal Power Plant is also shutting down to handle the incident. Previously, on the night of June 18, unit S3 of Ninh Binh Thermal Power Plant was reconnected to the grid after the incident on June 16.

Speaking with Thanh Nien , Mr. Khuc Ngoc Chinh, Deputy General Director of Thang Long Thermal Power Company, said that Thang Long Thermal Power Plant is designed with a capacity of 600 MW (including 2 units, each unit has a designed capacity of 300 MW).

Since the beginning of this year, Thang Long Thermal Power Plant has generated electricity relatively stably, basically always trying to generate electricity according to the mobilization requirements of the National Dispatch Center (A0). By the end of June 18, Thang Long Thermal Power Plant had generated and sold to the 500 kV grid an output of 1,565,581,000 kWh.

As for Unit 1, it has encountered two incidents since the beginning of the year. The recent incident was related to the fuel circulation line 401, which is expected to be fixed in about 5-6 days. "Thang Long Thermal Power Plant will try its best to put Unit 1 into operation at its highest capacity soon," said Mr. Chinh.

In the context of power supply for the Northern region still facing many difficulties, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN continue to direct units to increase power sources and flexibly operate reservoirs in the context of difficulties in hydroelectric reservoirs.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade and EVN are urging thermal power plants to prioritize handling incidents of generators; ensure coal and gas supply for power generation; actively supplement renewable energy sources for the system; enhance safe operation of the Central - Northern transmission system; step up propaganda work to implement the Prime Minister's Directive on electricity saving...
