Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 5 affirmed that there was nothing wrong with President Donald Trump's idea of relocating Palestinians from Gaza, despite the US leader's proposal facing international criticism.

Human rights organizations have previously condemned President Donald Trump's idea of relocating Palestinians, calling it ethnic cleansing. In addition, Mr. Trump also proposed that the US take over Gaza.
In an interview with Fox News on the evening of February 5, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not directly mention Mr. Trump's idea of taking over the Gaza Strip, but supported the view of "allowing Gazans who want to leave to leave."
“What’s wrong with that? They can leave, and then come back. They can resettle and come back. But Gaza needs to be rebuilt,” Netanyahu stressed, declaring that “this is a remarkable idea that will create a different future for everyone.”
“I think this is something that can change history and it is worth pursuing this direction,” the Israeli prime minister added.
However, according to Mr. Netanyahu, President Donald Trump did not propose sending US troops to fight Hamas forces in Gaza or that Washington would fund reconstruction efforts.
Also in the interview on February 5, when asked if he was optimistic about the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire negotiations including a hostage exchange agreement, Prime Minister Netanyahu affirmed: "We will try."
The six-week Gaza ceasefire, along with the hostage swap, came into effect just a day before Trump was sworn in. An Israeli delegation is expected to travel to Doha, Qatar, this week to continue negotiations.
Hamas still controls parts of the Gaza Strip, despite its strength being significantly reduced after 16 months of conflict. The US president said Washington would take “more drastic” action if Hamas violated its commitment to release all hostages taken in the October 7, 2023, attack that sparked the current conflict.
In addition, in a five-minute interview with Fox News , Prime Minister Netanyahu repeatedly emphasized that Iran is not allowed to possess nuclear weapons. A day earlier, Mr. Trump also reiterated this view, warning that Tehran would be "destroyed" if it dared to assassinate him.
“There is no doubt that Iran is advancing its nuclear weapons program. If we had not restrained them, they would have achieved their goal 10 years ago. We have hindered them, slowed them down, but we have not stopped them. After discussions, the President and I have made it clear: Iran must not have nuclear weapons. It is that simple,” Netanyahu said.
