According to the report of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee (Document No. 6727/UBND-TL dated August 4) and some media reports, in recent days, the Central Highlands region has continued to experience prolonged heavy rains, many areas continue to experience subsidence and landslides, affecting residential areas and traffic works, especially subsidence and landslides in the construction area of Dong Thanh reservoir (Dong Thanh commune, Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province) and Dak N'Ting reservoir (Dak G'long district, Dak Nong province) which pose a risk of causing dam safety loss.
In the face of the situation of prolonged heavy rain causing consecutive landslides in the Central Highlands provinces, in order to continue to focus on responding to floods, subsidence, landslides, ensuring the safety of dams, the safety of people's lives and property, the Prime Minister requested the Chairmen of the People's Committees of Lam Dong, Dak Nong provinces and other localities in the Central Highlands region to continue to strictly implement the Prime Minister's instructions in the telegrams dated July 1 and July 31, the document dated August 2, focusing on directing and deploying forces to immediately review areas at risk of landslides, subsidence, and inspect the work of ensuring the safety of residents and dams in the area. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee is responsible to the Prime Minister if he is irresponsible and causes dam safety incidents that cause damage to people's lives and property and the State.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development assigned 01 Deputy Minister to preside over and coordinate with the Ministries of Natural Resources and Environment, Transport, Industry and Trade, and Construction to urgently inspect and direct the work of preventing and overcoming natural disasters in the Central Highlands region, especially the work of ensuring the safety of residents, dams, landslides, and land subsidence in Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces; send experienced experts to support Lam Dong and Dak Nong provinces in researching and assessing the safety level of Dong Thanh lakes (Lam Dong province), Dak N'Ting (Dak Nong province) to have appropriate handling measures, ensuring the safety of works and residents.
The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and other relevant ministries and branches continue to monitor, proactively direct, and coordinate with localities to deploy natural disaster prevention, control, and overcoming consequences according to assigned functions and tasks, promptly propose and report to the Prime Minister for direction on issues beyond their authority.
