Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that France has a large cinema with a long history not only in Europe but also in the world. It is a cinema with abundant and intense creativity and breakthrough, with a profound and strong role of the "authorial cinema" and "art cinema" trends. The imprint of the director's style, of the emphasis on expressive forms, of the varan filmmaking style (direct documentary) has given French films through many periods their own unique style, spreading artistic inspiration to cinemas around the world - including Vietnam.

According to Mr. Cuong, France is famous for the Cannes Film Festival - the oldest film festival and dozens of large and small film festivals, which are the cradle that promotes the increasingly developing film industry. In the long history of French - Vietnamese cultural exchange, French cinema and Vietnamese cinema have always had close and meaningful relationships. Many French films (and French filmmaking technology and culture) have been made in Vietnam very early. Many Vietnamese directors (or French directors of Vietnamese origin) have participated and been honored at major film festivals in France in particular, and Europe in general (such as Tran Anh Hung, Bui Thac Chuyen, Phan Dang Di, Nguyen Hoang Diep, Pham Nhue Giang, Tran Phuong Thao...).

Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee spoke at the workshop.

Mr. Cuong hopes that the workshop will be an opportunity for Vietnamese artists and filmmakers to exchange and learn experiences in film production and distribution in general, and in varan (documentary) film production in particular, as well as issues of film techniques and post-production; at the same time, introduce their business activities to find out the needs and areas of film cooperation between Vietnam and France in the context of international integration and globalization.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee emphasized that the City is committed to having appropriate mechanisms and policies to support and attract investment and cooperation from domestic and foreign businesses and investors in the film industry to promote the development of Da Nang cinema in the future.

Sharing at the workshop, Dr. Ngo Phuong Lan, President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion Association, said that Vietnamese and French cinema have a lot of fate. In the early 1990s, three major films were filmed in Vietnam at the same time: "Indochina", "Dien Bien Phu" and "The Lover". The theme of Vietnam is known more widely in the world and more comprehensively through these films. French cinema has more or less brought fame to Vietnamese cinema with French films on Vietnamese themes.

However, in recent times, there has not been a film as big and important as this one shot in Vietnam. Therefore, this conference is an opportunity for filmmakers, especially leading French film experts, to exchange and share more about the relationship and cooperation in cinema between the two countries. More importantly, the Asian bridge begins to be built from Da Nang and thanks to other relationships of Vietnam, it is built from Asia to Europe, from the East to the West.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that the second Da Nang Asian Film Festival will be held with French cinema as the focus. This is an extremely important event in the development of Vietnamese cinema as well as the relationship between Vietnam and France in general, especially in the field of cinema.

In the 80s, French cinema was a very familiar film industry to Vietnam, many French films were shown in Vietnam and won the hearts of many audiences. However, after that, in the 1990s - 2000s, the contact between the two countries' film industries decreased due to many objective and subjective reasons.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong highly appreciated the efforts of the French Embassy to bring about a new change, introducing more images of French cinema to Vietnam. This is an opportunity for experts to draw many lessons, experiences and especially develop cooperation in cinema between the two countries.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong hopes that the results of the workshop will act as a bridge to develop Vietnamese and French cinema in particular, as well as further tighten the connection between Vietnam and France.

He said that France is ready to accompany young Vietnamese filmmakers to approach French cinema as well as international cinema; at the same time, he hopes that French cinema works will be known to more Vietnamese audiences and hopes that in the future, the cinema of the two countries will continue to develop strongly.

At the workshop, experts and delegates discussed in two sessions. Session 1 was "French cinema and its relationship with Vietnamese cinema" and Session 2 was a roundtable on cinema "Exchange and cooperation between France and Vietnam cinema: interdisciplinary and intercultural issues", with many topics such as: French cinema, Vietnamese cinema, perspectives from both sides; French cinema on the theme of Vietnam - memories; Producing art films in the context of globalization: French experience and suggestions for Vietnamese cinema; Many paths to international film awards of Vietnamese cinema, suggestions from the film "Muon vi nhan gian" by Tran Anh Hung; Integrating into the world through films of young contemporary Vietnamese directors: influences of French "New Wave" cinema; Varan's film style and influences from French documentary cinema to Vietnamese documentary cinema.../.
