Pepper prices today, February 19, 2025, in the domestic market increased sharply in key localities, trading from 160,000 - 162,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, pepper price today in Gia Lai is at 160,000 VND/kg.

Pepper prices today in the provinces of Dong Nai (159,000 VND/kg); Dak Lak (162,000 VND/kg); Dak Nong (162,000 VND/kg); Ba Ria - Vung Tau (160,000 VND/kg) and Binh Phuoc (160,000 VND/kg).

Thus, pepper prices today increased sharply in key localities, increasing by 2,000 - 3,000 VND/kg. The highest pepper price is at 162,000 VND/kg.

Global pepper prices, which experienced a spike in mid-2024, are expected to continue rising this year due to declining production and demand outstripping supply, according to Thestar.

"Currently, pepper supply in the global market is very scarce and demand is expected to continue to increase or remain stable. This will continue to push prices up.

“If China (a major consumer but a small importer in 2024) increases its purchases, prices will rise even more. I am very optimistic about pepper prices this year and in 2026,” said experienced trader William SC Yii, director of leading pepper exporter Nguong Aik Kuching Sdn Bhd.

According to Mr. Yii, domestic pepper prices in Malaysia have increased by about 10% since the beginning of the year, after recording a sharp increase in 2024.

“Pepper prices have been increasing slowly but steadily since January, and this is a good sign that prices will remain high this year.

“Experienced traders and farmers are holding on to their goods like gold, and they are still waiting to sell at higher prices,” he said.

Mr. Yii said that from May to July 2024, global pepper prices suddenly skyrocketed, with black pepper averaging nearly $10,000/ton and white pepper reaching $13,000/ton. Before this increase, black pepper was traded in the range of $6,000-7,000/ton, while white pepper was at $8,000/ton.

Anticipating a shortage in production and supply, pepper importers in the US and Europe, who had anticipated that global pepper prices would continue to rise, rushed to stockpile, causing prices to unexpectedly increase due to panic.

The market then quickly adjusted, pulling the average global black pepper price down to $6,800 - $7,000/ton and white pepper to $8,000/ton.

Currently, the average price of black pepper is trading at around 7,800 USD/ton, while white pepper is 9,800 USD/ton. Of which, Malaysian pepper has the highest export price among major producing countries.

At the end of the most recent trading session, the International Pepper Community (IPC) listed the price of Lampung black pepper (Indonesia) at 7,294 USD/ton; the price of Brazilian black pepper ASTA 570 at 6,800 USD/ton; the price of Kuching black pepper (Malaysia) ASTA at 9,000 USD/ton.

Muntok white pepper price is 10,068 USD/ton; Malaysian ASTA white pepper price is at 11,600 USD/ton.

Vietnam's black pepper price is trading at 6,500 USD/ton for 500 g/l; 550 g/l at 6,650 USD/ton; white pepper price at 9,550 USD/ton. IPC kept pepper prices stable in other countries in the first trading session of the week.
