The Ministry of Education and Training recognizes the Pearson English International Certificate (PEIC) as equivalent to the levels of the 6-level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework for Vietnam.
Thus, in addition to the familiar English standards in Vietnam such as IELTS or TOEFL, PEIC will be used for admission and training purposes at the university level, and can be applied as an English proficiency standard for students at high school and postgraduate levels.
According to the decision from January 5, the levels of PEIC certificates are recognized as equivalent to 6 levels as follows:
6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam | PEIC | |
Primary | Level 1 | Level A1 |
Level 2 | Level 1 | |
Intermediate | Level 3 | Level 2 |
Level 4 | Level 3 | |
High-class | Level 5 | Level 4 |
Level 6 | Level 5 |
The PEIC certificate is an international English proficiency standard, covering four skills of listening, speaking, and reading for students and working people. This test is divided into 6 levels corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), helping to assess the ability and progress of learners through each stage of language proficiency improvement.
The PEIC certificate is issued by Pearson Education Group, one of the oldest and most prestigious educational organizations in the world and also a major examination board in the UK. The PEIC exam is widely held in many countries around the world.

In addition, this set of certificates is recognized by businesses, universities, government agencies in Europe, America, Asia, Africa, including the UK's Office for the Regulation of Qualifications and Examinations (OFQUAL), the Italian Ministry of Education, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs...
The advantages of PEIC are the smoothness of the assessment scale and the flexibility for test takers. The certificate is divided into 6 levels, which are 6 separate exams. Each level corresponds to a competency level from A1 to C2 on the CEFR Competency Framework. Therefore, candidates can choose to take the exam at a precise competency level, suitable for their individual aspirations and language abilities.
In addition, the PEIC test is built on real-life language situations, close to English learners, and uses familiar question types that are easy for test takers to access. The structure of the test is consistent across all 6 levels. As a result, learners become familiar with the types of exercises and build confidence in using natural language, providing a positive experience, encouraging candidates to master the language.

In Vietnam, the PEIC certificate is organized by EMG Education, a strategic partner of Pearson Education Group. EMG Education and Pearson have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Training to jointly organize certification exams in Vietnam.
Currently, the fee for a PEIC certificate test of four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing is 1.2 million VND per candidate.
