Under Korean law, drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.03% or higher and less than 0.08% will be sentenced to up to 1 year in prison or a fine of about $3,700, while those with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% to 0.2% will be sentenced to up to 2 years in prison or a fine of up to $7,400.
Suga was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.227%, exceeding the maximum standard, so a high fine of $18,400 was required. Korean lawyer Noh Jong Eon said that Suga's punishment was a special warning to K-pop stars about drunk driving.
