The dengue fever (DF) epidemic situation in many provinces and cities is still complicated. Meanwhile, with the current high temperature, it is a favorable condition for mosquitoes to develop dengue fever. Therefore, the medical units of Thach Thanh district have directed the grassroots medical sector to strengthen communication work on dengue fever prevention and control to raise people's awareness in proactively taking appropriate preventive measures, not allowing the disease to appear and break out in the community.
People of Kim Tan town participate in general environmental cleaning to prevent and fight dengue fever.
Right from the beginning of the year, the Thach Thanh District Medical Center advised the District People's Committee to strengthen the Steering Committee for Disease Prevention and Control at the district and commune levels and assigned specific tasks to each member. At the same time, the task of preventing and controlling dengue fever was included in the Steering Committee's disease prevention and control plan as a basis for implementation. The unit directed the implementation of vector surveillance, patient surveillance, environmental sanitation and water sanitation, cleaning up water containers with developing larvae, destroying mosquito larvae, organizing chemical spraying to kill disease-transmitting mosquitoes, mobilizing people to wear long clothes and sleep under mosquito nets to avoid mosquito bites... At the same time, coordinating with the District Radio Station and Commune Radio Station to strengthen propaganda work on mass media so that all people know basic knowledge and measures to prevent and control dengue fever in the area.
Dr. Dang Van Thuan, Director of Thach Thanh District Medical Center, said: To proactively prevent and control epidemics, the District Medical Center has issued documents directing and proactively preventing and controlling dengue fever. At the same time, directing commune and town health stations to step up propaganda on disease prevention and control to people, especially in areas where floods and storms frequently occur; proactively coordinate with local authorities to monitor, supervise, inspect, and isolate... when cases appear, promptly have a plan to handle them, not allowing them to spread into an epidemic. In addition, the District Medical Center has coordinated with units and localities to spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes in areas at high risk of disease outbreaks; periodically carry out general environmental sanitation every month, organize the collection and thorough treatment of waste to prevent and control epidemics. In localities, the work of monitoring insect indexes, disease vectors, monitoring, investigating, and counting cases and infectious diseases is strictly carried out according to the direction of the center, especially in villages, neighborhoods, and communes that used to be dengue fever outbreak areas; focusing on monitoring patients when they show signs of dengue fever...
In Kim Tan town - a locality with an old dengue outbreak, disease prevention and control work has always been of concern. After receiving the plan from the superiors, the town's Health Station organized propaganda to the neighborhoods to raise people's awareness, and at the same time mobilized people to participate in general environmental sanitation. Every week, the neighborhoods cleaned up their homes, village roads, alleys and cultural houses, turned over and collected water settling tools, sprayed insecticides in high-risk areas to minimize the occurrence of dengue in the locality. People were informed in detail by medical staff about measures to prevent dengue, from detecting the disease, how to treat it at home, instructions on how to clean the environment, kill mosquitoes, larvae..., not allowing mosquitoes to breed, develop and spread the disease to the community.
Ms. Le Thi Huong, Tan Son Ward 6, Kim Tan Town, said: In rural areas, there is often a higher risk of dengue fever outbreaks, due to the large residential and living areas, many ponds, reservoirs, stagnant water containers, and bushes - favorable conditions for dengue mosquitoes to arise and develop, so each person must be proactive, raise awareness, and have appropriate and effective prevention measures. According to the instructions, every 3 to 6 months, I spray insecticide once in the area inside and around the house. However, with tree roots and bushes near the pond that are always damp and have many mosquitoes, I increase the spraying with shorter intervals to control the reproduction and development of mosquitoes. Along with that, all flower pots, water containers... in the garden and around my house must not have stagnant water, the garden must be cleaned, bushes must be cleared, and larvae must not have conditions to develop into dengue mosquitoes...
Head of Kim Tan Town Health Station, Le Van Thinh, said: Although in the first months of 2023, there have been no cases of imported or endogenous dengue fever in the area, disease prevention and control work has always been given attention, focus and promotion, especially strengthening propaganda among the people, how to make people change their behavior so that they can protect their own health and proactively implement disease prevention measures.
With the drastic participation of local authorities, sectors and organizations, especially the consensus of the people in the district, up to now, the dengue fever epidemic situation in Thach Thanh district is under control. The district health sector continues to advise local authorities to actively organize propaganda for people on the loudspeaker system about disease prevention measures such as: using mosquito nets when sleeping even during the day, cleaning the living environment to ensure ventilation, killing mosquito larvae, not leaving objects containing stagnant water for a long time. When there are signs of suspected dengue fever, it is necessary to go to a medical facility immediately for timely examination and treatment, to avoid spreading to relatives and the community, and to prevent the disease from forming and breaking out into an epidemic.
