These days, the acacia forest belonging to the Deo Mon Production Team, Son Duong Forestry Company Limited (Son Duong) is bustling with the sound of chainsaws, the voices and laughter of logging workers.

Mr. Ly Van Dong, Head of Planning - Technical Department and Head of Deo Mon Production Team, excitedly said: In the first months of the year, it rained a lot and the team could not exploit, but now the sunny weather is very favorable for exploitation. In the second half of October and the first half of November alone, the team exploited over 16 hectares, nearly double that of the previous 9 months. Currently, 26 hectares of the team's designed forest have been exploited, equivalent to 2,500 m3. The wood is exploited to the factory and production workshop of the customer. According to Mr. Dong, in recent years, instead of exploiting by themselves, the design team has calculated the estimated output to sell standing trees, and the purchasing enterprise has proactively purchased machinery, means of exploitation and transportation, so the progress of forest exploitation is very fast. The target of exploiting 30 hectares will certainly be reached soon - Mr. Dong affirmed.

Many forest areas of Son Duong Forestry Company Limited (Son Duong) have been exploited to clear land in preparation for the afforestation plan.

Not only the Deo Mon production team, but also the Dong Huu, Binh Yen, and Deo Khe teams, the purchasing unit also focused on human resources, machinery, and vehicles to speed up the exploitation progress of forest areas that have reached the designed exploitation age.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Thai, Director of Son Duong Forestry Company Limited (Son Duong) confidently affirmed: As of mid-November, the company has exploited 270 hectares, equivalent to 25,628 m3, reaching 91.53% of the yearly plan. The goal from now until the end of the year is to exploit about 300 hectares to free up land for new forest planting.

Yen Son Forestry Company is also accelerating the progress of forest exploitation to the planned cycle. Mr. Tran Xuan Quang, Director of the Company, excitedly said: In 2024, the company planned to exploit 180 hectares, equivalent to 18,500 m3. By November, the company had only exploited 173 hectares, with a timber output of 19,400 m3, reaching 105% of the plan. According to Mr. Quang, the forest area exploited this year is all large timber forests, so the productivity and quality of the forest are very good, with some forests reaching over 180 m3/ha.

According to information from the provincial Forest Protection Department, the consumption of planted forest wood products has recovered, large wood processing enterprises such as Woodsland Tuyen Quang Joint Stock Company and An Hoa Paper Joint Stock Company have expanded their purchasing output. The price of raw wood is also relatively stable, ranging from VND 850,000 to VND 1.4 million/m3 depending on the size. Therefore, enterprises and households with forest areas in the exploitation cycle should grasp the information, focus on human resources, machinery, and means to speed up the exploitation progress to meet the raw material needs of customers.

Land liberation, preparation for the 2025 afforestation plan

Comrade Ly Xuan Binh, Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said: By early November, 8,754.69 hectares of forest had been exploited, with an estimated output of over 1 million m3, reaching 83.3% of the plan. It is expected that from now until the end of the year, nearly 1,000 hectares of mature forest will be exploited. Thus, about 10,000 hectares of forest land will be cleared for reforestation in the upcoming 2025 forest planting season.

At Yen Son Forestry Company, the entire forest area is exploited, the Company requires teams to clean and sanitize the forest to prepare conditions for forest planting in 2025. To improve productivity and quality of planted forests, limit pests and diseases in areas where acacia has been planted for 2 cycles, the Company will not replant acacia but replace it with other tree species such as bodhi, fat, eucalyptus to prevent pests and diseases remaining in the soil, and forest residues from spreading and harming young trees.

Production teams of Son Duong Forestry Company Limited and many forest planting households in Son Duong area, along with exploitation, also carry out clearing the forest cover. Mr. Hoang Hai Nguyen, Thuong Am commune, affirmed: Forest is gold, so forest planters like him never delay, exploiting to where, they process the cover there, when the forest planting season comes, they dig holes, plant trees, and quickly revive the forest.

According to comrade Ly Xuan Binh, Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, the dry weather in the last months of the year is very favorable for forest exploitation, but it also has disadvantages for forest protection, prevention and control if technical requirements are not followed in the process of post-exploitation vegetation treatment. In fact, there have been cases of post-exploitation vegetation treatment causing forest fires, causing damage to property and people. Therefore, the Department requires that Forest Protection Departments coordinate with localities to continue to carry out propaganda and dissemination of laws on forest fire prevention and control; promote the inspection responsibility of local authorities, forest owners, and units operating along the forest edge in ensuring safety in forest fire prevention and control; enhance people's responsibility in handling vegetation in forestry production activities; promptly detect and handle fires if they occur, prevent fires from spreading and causing large fires to limit damage to people's lives and property.
