A knife attack occurred in the city of Bordeaux, southwestern France, leaving one person dead and two injured.
The attack occurred at around 8 p.m. local time on April 10 in the Miroir d'Eau area. Local police said it appeared to be a simple brawl. There were no signs of terrorism. The suspect was shot dead by police at the scene. According to Le Figaro, the attacker and the two victims were likely "of North African origin."
France has been on its highest alert for terrorist attacks since October 2023, after a suspected Islamist stormed a school in the north of the country and stabbed a teacher to death.
France has been a frequent target of Islamist extremists over the past decade, particularly the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) terrorist group, and the situation has been further strained amid the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
France is currently on special security alert ahead of the Paris Olympics in July and August.
