Durian exports through Chu Lai Port increase sharply thanks to proximity to raw material area
As an important gateway for goods trading in the Central and Central Highlands regions, Chu Lai Port is contributing to solving the export needs of the entire region, especially agricultural products with increasing export volume and turnover.
Durian exports increase sharply
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first half of 2024, our country's fruit and vegetable exports reached 3.4 billion USD, up 28% over the same period last year. Of which, durian was the main fruit item contributing to export growth with 1.32 billion USD, up 45% over the same period.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian export turnover will continue to increase in the coming months when the largest growing region in the country, the Central Highlands, enters the harvest season. At the same time, durian prices have also been high since July because Thailand has ended its crop season, causing supply to shrink. Meanwhile, Vietnamese durian has great potential as it can be produced year-round thanks to its mastery of spreading-out cultivation techniques, extending the harvest time. This is an advantage that has helped Vietnam become the second largest supplier of fresh durian to China after less than 2 years of opening to this market.

Currently, durian is mainly transported and exported by road through northern border gates such as Tan Thanh, Huu Nghi, Chi Ma (Lang Son), Mong Cai (Quang Ninh)... However, during peak season, at border gates there is often congestion, long transportation time, which makes product quality not guaranteed, reducing competitiveness in the market. This is a difficult problem for agricultural export enterprises, especially fruit groups with growing areas in the South Central, Central Central, and Central Highlands regions with long transportation distances.
