Durian exports through Chu Lai Port increase sharply thanks to proximity to raw material area

As an important gateway for goods trading in the Central and Central Highlands regions, Chu Lai Port is contributing to solving the export needs of the entire region, especially agricultural products with increasing export volume and turnover.

Durian exports increase sharply

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first half of 2024, our country's fruit and vegetable exports reached 3.4 billion USD, up 28% over the same period last year. Of which, durian was the main fruit item contributing to export growth with 1.32 billion USD, up 45% over the same period.

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, durian export turnover will continue to increase in the coming months when the largest growing region in the country, the Central Highlands, enters the harvest season. At the same time, durian prices have also been high since July because Thailand has ended its crop season, causing supply to shrink. Meanwhile, Vietnamese durian has great potential as it can be produced year-round thanks to its mastery of spreading-out cultivation techniques, extending the harvest time. This is an advantage that has helped Vietnam become the second largest supplier of fresh durian to China after less than 2 years of opening to this market.

The refrigerated container yard system at Chu Lai port has an area of over 12,500 m2 with a capacity of 1,000 containers.

Currently, durian is mainly transported and exported by road through northern border gates such as Tan Thanh, Huu Nghi, Chi Ma (Lang Son), Mong Cai (Quang Ninh)... However, during peak season, at border gates there is often congestion, long transportation time, which makes product quality not guaranteed, reducing competitiveness in the market. This is a difficult problem for agricultural export enterprises, especially fruit groups with growing areas in the South Central, Central Central, and Central Highlands regions with long transportation distances.

Realizing the great potential of the market, THILOGI has promoted logistics services to serve the official export of durian to China through Chu Lai International Seaport. With the synchronous implementation of many solutions to improve service quality, Chu Lai Port is gradually affirming its role as a specialized port for refrigerated containers serving the export of fresh fruits, solving the problem of logistics costs and increasing the competitiveness of enterprises.

Increasing logistics capacity to serve durian export

Recently, THILOGI has worked with key durian exporting enterprises in Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Gia Lai provinces... to determine demand, provide solutions and support enterprises exporting through Chu Lai Port.

The solution groups focus on ensuring technical requirements for durian preservation during transportation, reducing time and optimizing costs. At the same time, Chu Lai Port also actively supports customers in carrying out procedures for certifying the origin of durian (pure origin criteria - WO, origin criteria of domestic producers/suppliers); registering for export plant quarantine certificates (at Chu Lai Port) and coordinating pesticide residue testing at import ports (Shekou, Xiamen, Nansha, Xinsha, Huangpu ports - China).

THILOGI transports export fruits for businesses in the South Central region, Central Central region, Central Highlands, Southern Laos, Northern Cambodia for export through Chu Lai Port.

As a large-scale logistics enterprise, THILOGI has many advantages in establishing a fixed and continuous convection transport network; a system of warehouses and depot stations across the country; and at the same time, there are transportation routes connecting the entire Central Highlands, Southern Laos, Northern Cambodia along the East-West economic corridor to Chu Lai Port and exporting to countries in the Northeast Asia region... With more than 200 tractors, a refrigerated container system (40, 45 feet) and a refrigerated yard system built according to international standards at Chu Lai Port (area of more than 12,500 m2, capacity of 1,000 refrigerated containers), THILOGI meets the export, storage and preservation standards of customers.

Mr. Bui Tran Nhan Tri, Deputy General Director of THILOGI Business, said that the Company focuses on exploiting the multimodal transport model, combining the implementation of full export procedures, quarantine, customs declaration, warehousing, preservation... to create convenience and save costs for customers, thereby contributing to increasing the value of Vietnamese durian exports, creating favorable conditions for official durian trade to major markets such as China, Korea, Japan...

At the end of August 2024, Chu Lai Port will continue to welcome new international shipping lines opening direct shipping routes to the Port, increasing the frequency of foreign ships to 4 trips/week. Thereby, contributing to stabilizing freight rates, diversifying the choice of shipping lines, and reducing transportation costs for businesses.
