The exhibition “Nguyen Dynasty Medicine: The Bridge Between Eastern and Western Medicine” contributes to recreating the history of formation, development and achievements of traditional Vietnamese medicine as well as the penetration and contributions of Western medicine in Vietnam.

The exhibition consists of three parts: “Oriental medicine in the history of Vietnam”; “Nguyen Dynasty Medicine: The bridge between Eastern and Western medicine” and “Western medicine in Vietnam”. These include documents and images selected from the National Archives Centers under the State Records and Archives Department, the Institute of Han Nom Studies, the National Library of Vietnam, the National Library of France and many other sources.

According to the Organizing Committee, our country has a long history of medicine with many famous doctors. During the Hung King period, although medicine was still passed down by word of mouth, Vietnamese people already knew how to use food to treat diseases. During the period of Chinese domination, there was an exchange and adoption of medicine from China.

Entering the period of independence, our country's traditional medicine has increasingly developed. During the Tran Dynasty, Chu Van An compiled the book "Y hoc y y giai tap chu di bien"; Zen master Tue Tinh compiled the books "Nam duoc than hieu", "Hong Nghia giac tu y thu"...

Currently, there are thousands of traditional medical books, of which the “Hai Thuong Lan Ong y tong tam linh” is the most voluminous medical book in our country. These medical books are the achievements of traditional medicine that still retain their value today.

During the Nguyen Dynasty, the integration of Western medicine made Vietnamese medicine increasingly developed. At the end of the 19th century, when the French entered our country, Western medicine also strongly penetrated into the royal court and people's lives. Therefore, Nguyen Dynasty medicine was the link between Eastern and Western medicine.
