Ford Europe has introduced the 2024 Transit and E‑Transit with standard 12-inch screens and new eight-speed transmissions.

The most notable updates are on the inside as Ford equips the truck with an 8-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system – a big improvement over the previous standard 4.2-inch non-touchscreen display.

Additionally, these trucks are also equipped with an enhanced 5G modem, “providing ultra-fast connectivity through Transit’s intelligent technologies with Ford Power-Up over-the-air updates.” These trucks also take inspiration from the 2023 F-Series Super Duty and are equipped with Ford Pro’s Upfit Integration System.

Also of note is a new Delivery Assist function that can help automate tasks for delivery drivers. When the vehicle is parked, such as when making a delivery, the engine is automatically turned off while the hazard lights are activated. The system also automatically locks any doors without the driver having to get out of the vehicle or approach the package. After dropping off a package, the delivery driver simply presses the brake pedal to restart the engine and turn off the hazard lights.

While the system may sound simple, Ford says it can save drivers 20 seconds per delivery. That means a driver delivering 150 packages will save 50 minutes. That’s a significant savings that can be used to deliver additional packages and increase productivity even further.

Finally, on the tech front, there are a number of standard driver assistance systems including Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Warning & Assist, and Smart Speed Assist. Other optional systems include Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering and Stop & Go, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, and Automatic Parking Assist with a 360-degree camera.

Mechanically, the Transit gets a new eight-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. It “maximizes the GVM to 4,250kg and GTM to 6,000kg – increases of 700kg and 1,750kg respectively.

Elsewhere, the model gets new 16-inch wheels, as well as lightweight axles and brakes that save up to 60 pounds. The brakes are also easier to replace, with Ford saying that service time has been reduced by up to two hours when replacing all four discs.

Finally, there's a new Heavy-Duty Total Axle Weight Rating package, which increases the maximum front axle weight to 2,000 kg from 1,850 kg for front-wheel-drive models.

Orders will open later this month and deliveries are expected to begin next summer./.
