On October 26, the People's Committee of Da Nang City announced that it had just agreed to allow the mass installation of QR codes to introduce street name information throughout the city according to the proposal of the city's Department of Transport.
Thus, after nearly 3 years of piloting on the streets of Son Tra District, Da Nang City has "covered" the installation of QR codes introducing street names throughout the city.
Street name posts throughout Da Nang City will be attached with QR codes like in Son Tra District.
According to Thanh Nien reporters, on major coastal roads in Son Tra District, on street name signs, authorities have installed QR code panels made of galvanized steel, with blue reflective paper and white letters "street name information" in 2 languages: Vietnamese and English.
Using a mobile phone to scan the QR code placed at the Nguyen Van Thoai – Vo Nguyen Giap street nameplate, Hoang Duy Uyen (3rd year student, Da Nang University of Economics) was interested to see the link to the address isontra.vn with content related to the famous person whose name is given to the street.
"I know more or less about General Vo Nguyen Giap's biography. As for Nguyen Van Thoai, I don't know much about him. Many times I've been to this busy street, wondering who he is...", Uyen said.
QR code on Nguyen Van Thoai street introduces famous people's biographies, length, route... of the street, helping many people to quickly learn more.
After scanning the QR code attached to the street name, Duy Uyen learned that in early 1820, Nguyen Van Thoai ordered the digging of the Vinh Te canal, more than 91 km long, connecting Chau Doc with Ha Tien, leading water to the Gulf of Thailand, which was not completed until 1824. Nguyen Van Thoai was honored by the people of Da Nang by naming a street in Son Tra District in 2006 and his wife, Chau Thi Vinh Te, also had a street named after her in Ngu Hanh Son District in 2009, connecting to Nguyen Van Thoai Street.
"When I need to learn a street name, I just need to scan the QR code, detailed information from the official channel will appear for us to read immediately. It is a quick and interesting way to learn Vietnamese history, helping readers remember easily," Uyen shared.
Integrate multiple travel information on each QR code
According to Thanh Nien reporter's investigation, implementing the project "Introducing information about street names via QR codes in the district", since the end of 2021, Son Tra District People's Committee has attached QR codes to introduce 30 key routes for services and tourism at 111 street name signs.
These QR codes are integrated from the database of street names and biographies of cultural celebrities whose names the streets bear, extracted from the data source of the Da Nang City People's Council on naming streets in the area, ensuring accurate information. Residents and tourists only need to use their smartphones to scan the code and will be directed to a link to access information about street names.

Not only Da Nang residents but also tourists coming to the coastal city are very interested in and participate in the experience of scanning QR codes to learn street names. Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An (residing in Ho Chi Minh City) said: "Perhaps like me, many people must have wondered when reading the street name about a famous person or place. Da Nang's way of doing things helps people who need to learn like me get the answer right away, it is a very good way to learn history".
The QR codes are integrated to build a database of street names, biographies of cultural celebrities, street names, and local landmarks, displaying geographic locations, routes, lengths, etc. extracted from Da Nang's data source on street naming in the area, ensuring accurate information.

After the successful pilot period, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City assigned the People's Committees of districts to install QR codes introducing street name information on all street name signs in the districts (including the locations of street name signs that have not been handed over for management, use, operation and exploitation) to proactively integrate necessary information for propaganda according to the needs of each district.
Regarding the form, installation location and display content when scanning the QR code, the People's Committees of districts and towns are required to follow the contents that the People's Committee of Son Tra District has deployed to synchronize throughout the city. Localities prioritize implementation first for major roads, main roads, tourist roads, etc.
Made of weather-resistant materials, QR codes will stand the test of time.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City also directed the People's Committee of Son Tra District to transfer the built software (to serve the management and storage of information about street names, adjust the information that needs to be displayed when scanning QR codes as well as count the number of people participating in scanning QR Codes to serve the statistical work and reporting when necessary) to the People's Committees of other districts for reference and to build similar software to serve future management work.
It is known that in the coming time, QR codes on the roads in Da Nang City will be supplemented with information in English as well as integrated with data about accommodation facilities, restaurants, tourist attractions... to help tourists easily refer to information when experiencing tourism in the city.
