This is the first severe cold spell since the Lunar New Year of At Ty. The severe cold slows down the pace of life, people going out must wear warm clothes and cover themselves with scarves, those who often work outdoors must wear raincoats to keep warm.
Some sidewalk vendors on streets such as Lac Long Quan (Tay Ho District), Ring Road 3, and Thang Long Boulevard (Nam Tu Liem District) even have to light fires to avoid the cold.
Mr. Le Viet Vuong, a peach vendor on Lac Long Quan Street, said that the cold weather in Hanoi over the past two days has made his work more difficult.
"It's not raining today, but the strong wind has made me wear a lot of warm clothes, gloves, and a mask, but I still can't stand it. While there are no customers, I use small peach branches to make a fire to keep warm," said Mr. Vuong.

Like Mr. Vuong, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hang, a flower vendor on Thang Long Boulevard, also had to burn firewood on the sidewalk to keep warm. Ms. Hang said that she has been selling fresh flowers for nearly 10 years, and her job requires her to be in constant contact with water, so it is more difficult in the winter.
This year the economy is difficult, people buy few fresh flowers, so she has to wake up early and come home late, carrying flowers all over the streets of Hanoi in the hope of getting more customers. However, in recent days Hanoi has turned cold, late in the afternoon she has to park the bike, light a fire on the sidewalk to warm up.
People on the street clearly feel the cold.
