On June 25, 2014, the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially listed Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex (Ninh Binh) as a World Heritage Site - the first mixed heritage of Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
The outstanding universal value of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex was recognized by the World Heritage Committee based on three criteria: cultural, aesthetic and geological and geomorphological criteria.
The World Cultural and Natural Heritage Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is a place where nature and culture blend together in a unique way. Here, interwoven within the limestone ranges is a diverse system of valleys and water caves covered with primeval tropical forest vegetation.
Located in the center of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Trang An Eco-tourism Area with an area of 2,168 hectares is a majestic and magnificent mountainous area created by the multi-shaped mountains reflecting on the winding, meandering streams connecting hundreds of caves and wild, mysterious valleys. In addition, there are also long and beautiful water caves on tourist routes 2 and 3 that will amaze visitors. All seem to blend together to create a magical space. With 48 water caves, this is a unique cave complex in Vietnam.

Besides Trang An Eco-tourism Area, there is also a system of historical and cultural relics, famous tourist areas and spots such as Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Tam Coc - Bich Dong, Tuyet Tinh Coc, Thung Nham Eco-tourism Area; Mua Cave, Thien Ha Cave, Bai Dinh Mountain Pagoda Spiritual Cultural Area... which have been and are the choice of many domestic and international tourists to visit and learn about the Heritage Area.
Not only is it beautifully designed and a famous tourist attraction, Bai Dinh Pagoda is also important to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha as it was the place where the first ceremony to welcome relics from India to Vietnam was held in 2010. It also hosted the United Nations Vesak Festival in 2014.
As part of the Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, famous for its title 'The Second Best Cave in the South', Tam Coc Bich Dong possesses a peaceful countryside landscape and an impressive limestone cave system. On an area of 350.3 hectares, the scenic spot is a combination of limestone cave systems and peaceful countryside scenery. In addition, this tourist complex also possesses Bich Dong Pagoda imbued with traditional architecture and historical relics related to the Vu Lam palace of the glorious Tran Dynasty.
Located in the core of Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Hoa Lu Ancient Capital is a destination rich in national cultural and historical values, contributing to making Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex a dual world heritage. Despite the passage of time, the ancient capital still lies there peacefully, quiet but still majestic, a golden mark marking a heroic period of the nation.
Hoa Lu was chosen as the first capital of the centralized feudal state when Dinh Bo Linh ascended the throne in 968.... Chosen as the capital of Dai Co Viet for a short time, many events related to the fate of the whole nation took place here, such as the careers of three consecutive dynasties: Dinh, Tien Le and Ly with historical marks. Before the fate and requirements of history, the capital was moved, but the ancient capital of Hoa Lu continued to be built with solid architectural works with temples, pagodas, shrines and has been preserved to this day. Temples of King Dinh and King Le were built right on the foundation of the ancient capital.
As the first and only mixed heritage and dual world heritage in Southeast Asia, Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex is increasingly prominent on the tourism map of Vietnam and the world.
Thanks to the beauty that nature has bestowed, in July 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a Decision approving the Task of establishing a Plan for the preservation, restoration and rehabilitation of Trang An - Tam Coc - Bich Dong National Special Scenic Landscape, Ninh Binh Province. The goal of establishing the plan is to preserve the outstanding global values of the heritage, concretize the development strategies and orientations of Ninh Binh Province, implement Vietnam's commitment to UNESCO in the work of preserving and promoting the value of the heritage, making Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Ninh Binh Province one of the attractive tourist areas of Vietnam and the world./.
