Thach Thanh Forest Protection Management Board (FPMB) is assigned to manage, use and develop forests on an area of over 8,118.74 hectares in the districts of Thach Thanh, Ba Thuoc, Ha Trung, Ngoc Lac, Cam Thuy, Vinh Loc. Of which, 6,658 hectares are protection and special-use forests, the rest are production forests.

In recent years, the Thach Thanh Forest Protection Management Board has developed a sustainable forest management plan for the period 2021-2030, which has been approved by the Chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. At the same time, the board has had initiatives to improve forest management and protection (FPM) to help contracted households not only do a good job in forest protection, fire prevention and fighting (FPF), such as: Allocating forests and forest land to local people according to Decree 168/2016/ND-CP of the Government; organizing combined agricultural and forestry production, strengthening forest management and use, creating more jobs, increasing income for contracted households so that people can feel secure in their attachment to the forest. The FPM stations in the communes managed by the unit have strengthened FPM at the root. Cadres regularly stay at the grassroots to propagate to households receiving land and forests to understand their responsibilities and rights when participating in FPM, FPF and FPFF activities; providing high-value production forest seedlings; providing technical guidance on planting and caring for forests associated with the development of large timber forests, planting forests using tissue cultured trees; providing guidance on exploiting forest resources and non-timber forest products in accordance with regulations; organizing livestock and poultry farming under the forest canopy; connecting with units purchasing products for farms... The stations have proactively coordinated with communes to proactively inspect, monitor and strictly handle violators of the Forestry Law. Villages with forests have coordinated with management boards to mobilize households living near forests and along forest edges to sign a commitment not to violate forest security and actively participate in forest fire prevention and control work. Proactively implementing forest fire prevention and control solutions such as building and repairing 30km of firebreaks; clearing vegetation to reduce combustible materials under the pine forest canopy by more than 700ha; pre-burning of combustible materials with control for 120ha; Purchase fire prevention and fighting equipment such as blowers, knives, fire extinguishers, etc. Strengthen propaganda, patrol, inspection, and forest fire watch on hot days and in areas with potential risks of forest insecurity and forest fires.
Currently, Thach Thanh Forest Protection Management Board has assigned the entire area for stable and long-term management to 580 households for forestry care, protection and production organization. The households have built 55 farms and combined agricultural and forestry farms, bringing in quite high income, creating jobs on the spot and improving income for hundreds of workers. Notable examples include the model of forest protection farms, forest development combined with fruit tree planting and livestock and poultry farming of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung and Mr. Nguyen Van Duc (Van Du town). From 2022 to August 2024, Thach Thanh Forest Protection Management Board has provided technical guidance; provided forestry seedlings to households that have contracted to plant more than 150 hectares of large timber forests. In general, households that have contracted forestry land have been assured to protect and develop forests in a sustainable direction.
The outstanding result is that the Party Committee, government and people in the area have realized that forests contribute significantly to socio-economic development and environmental protection, so the work of forest protection and development has been socialized. The entire forest area managed by Thach Thanh Forest Protection Management Board has not had any fires. Forest security in the area has been basically maintained. Forest resources are managed and protected in a sustainable manner. Through the implementation of programs, projects and forestry work, the board has contributed to changing the economic structure in a number of communes, changing awareness and improving the technical level of planting, caring and forest protection for people, initially forming raw material areas for industrial production, forming models of forest economic development, effective integrated agricultural and forestry farms.
